Got to have the habanero sauce. What a kick! Enjoyed the food. Sufficient portion and good taste. The icecream was probably re frozen. Had ice particles. Ethnic staff, great service. Good ambience. Recommend making a reservation. The tres leches is on a flan cake, as opposed to sponge cake. Tastes fine, but personally i prefer the sponge.

Food is excellent, and the cocktails are even better! My girlfriend and I frequent this place multiple times a month and have never been disappointed – it’s our go-to place for a nice dinner out. And the BEST thing is you never feel rushed! So many of the fine dining places out there now wanna get you in and out to turn the table over, not this place! Yes they do get crazy busy sometimes, but they are always attentive and try to get you comfortable while you wait as much as possible with their bar area.

Side note: they had a little mishap with some construction crew down the street on a Saturday that knocked out the area’s power, so they went ahead and called us having a reservation to inform us they wouldn’t be opening that night, but if that changed would call us back and let us know; giving us a few hour window gave us time to find somewhere else to go that night (albeit nowhere near as great)……very professional and very very appreciated!!

Great authentic/upscale Mexican restaurant in a quaint town. Comfortable restaurant ideal for families or small groups. The bar is good if you are dining solo. I pretty much love everything I’ve tried here. While it may sound boring the tacos are amazing. Decent margaritas.

Not authentic. Very over priced. Don’t order the drink special if you don’t want to be upset about spending 11.50 for flavored drink that doesn’t taste like it has alcohol in it. Really look and taste the salsa and you know it’s not gonna be a good experience.

I have been a loyal customer to this restaurant because the food is delicious and the service was good, until tonight! We dont mind waiting to be seated, but when you are given a time period in which you decide whether to stay or go somewhere else, you expect to be seated close to that time! We waited twice the time given before asking to be seated and were dealt with in a very disrespectful manner! Will never return!

Aguamiel was a great experience. I’m going to divide this review into food and everything else.

Food:

The food was a five-star excellent adventure. We started off with the special chile rellenos for the day (roasted jalapenos stuffed with chorizo and cheese) and an order of the guacamole. Both were outstanding. The only negative I could say is that the order of guacamole was slightly small considering the $7.75 price point, but it was still worth it. For the entrees, my girlfriend had the special carnitas for the day. She said they were excellent, and it was a very nice serving of food. I had the cochinita pibil. It was fantastic; it was super tender, moist, and came with pickled onions and super hot habanero salsa. Most entrees come with black beans, which I enjoy so much more than the canned re-fried beans you get at most Tex-Mex or sub-par Mexican restaurants. We each had a margarita, which was well worth the price; very fresh and very good!

Front of House/Everything else:

Here is why I can’t get give Aguamiel a perfect 5-star rating. I’ve been around the restaurant industry for a long time, so I am very understanding when it comes to issues that are out of anyone’s control. But there were a few things that I just can’t ignore. We went on the Thursday following Christmas, and the restaurant was quite busy considering the calendar day, and I don’t think they or even the diners were prepared for that. They had a small party going on and a few fairly large tables. When we walked in, we waited by the host’s stand for about 5 minutes, with no acknowledgement by any of the staff. No host or hostess seated us, but a bus captain. We got to our table and everything was smooth sailing from the waitstaff. After sitting for a few moments, I finally did see a hostess. She was wandering around like she had no clue what to do, and dressed in something that even I would consider “inappropriate” for a hostess. There was a back server who was running food out later in the evening, but wore jeans that looked like they were painted on him and he looked very lost as well. I did notice was the that waitstaff was not divided up in the “stations” plan for the dining room, but were given tables based on when they were seated. That is a fine practice in a smaller restaurant like Aguamiel, but I felt sorry for our service captain. He looked like he was running a marathon all over the dining room. Also, the restaurant was a little loud. Noise levels do not bother me in any restaurant, but it does bear mention.

Overall, this was a great food experience and we will go back. I am hoping that the front of house concerns were fallout from unexpected crowds the day after Christmas, and not signs of under-qualified front of house staff. But it was worth the drive and the food was top notch.

My party was told there was going to be a 30 minute wait and was told they would send us a text when our table was ready. We went back an hour later to find out that 5 tables had becom me available and given to other people. When we asked why they said the people they had given the tables to had reservations. We asked why the host didn’t know that and without giving us an answer they told us we’re were not aloud to come to that restaurant any more. We felt very disrespected and they didn’t care that they just ruined a 3 year old boys birthday

Unique dishes not found in most Mexican restaurants. Former Rick Bayless chef is the difference. Staff very friendly. Interesting cocktails as well, especially if you like Mescal.

I wish I could give no stars. I called prior to coming if they were dog friendly. I was told, yes. When I arrived at the restaurant. I was told to leave my dogs out side the patio on the gate. This is not dog friendly. My two dogs weigh 20 Lbs. put together.
