Really friendly staff, clean open restaurant with unique seating. Sushi wasn’t anything to write home about, enjoyable and filling.

This was my first visit to Kotobuki and I was very pleased with my restaurant choice. The food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere, cleanliness and service were exceptional. The most notable aspect of this restaurant is the considerable amount of vegan choices and menu variety. There is something for every member of your party. I was glad I arrived early for dinner because the restaurant filled up quickly. I will definitely go back.

IF I COULD GIVE NO Stars I would.
Worst dining experiences we’ve had in a long time.

We called ahead and were told the dinner rush was from 6–7 p.m., so we arrived at 5:30 to avoid the crowd. The moment we walked in, a waitress yelled across the restaurant from the back asking how many were in our party instead of greeting us like normal customers. It was loud, awkward, and completely unprofessional.

Although we were seated quickly, that was the only thing that went smoothly. The waitress dropped menus on the table and walked away without offering drinks or even acknowledging us. Meanwhile, couples who were seated after us were greeted properly, had their drink orders taken immediately, and even placed their food orders while we were still sitting there without water.

We had to flag down multiple employees just to ask for water, and even then, no one ever brought it. At one point, a waitress claimed it was just her and her son working, yet there were clearly several other employees serving tables and working the register. The lack of organization and communication among the staff was obvious.

When we finally tried to place our order including specialty rolls, appetizers, and an important note about my severe dairy allergy the waitress abruptly walked away mid-order. We weren’t rude or difficult; we were simply trying to order dinner. Instead, we were treated like an inconvenience.

After sitting there without drinks and without being able to even complete our order, we decided to leave and salvage our Valentine’s evening somewhere else.

This was not just “busy holiday service.” It was disorganized, inattentive, and unprofessional from start to finish. Based on our experience, I would not recommend dining here, especially for a special occasion.

I think one of the best sushi place in norfolk.
I can say the chef knows how to make sushi which is very rare around here.
He knows how to cook rice and put a proper quantity of rice.
He uses fresh sashimi as well.
Here is first impressive sushi place in Norfolk.

Service is good enough.
Waitress is very kind.

Atmosphere is that I felt like I was jn Japan.

I wil definitely visit here again !!!!

Sushi was okay, I wouldn’t have left a review like this if it wasn’t for the blatant disrespect the employee had for her mother that was both visible and audible for the entire restaurant to witness. That alone makes me not want to come back. Do better please.

I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 10 years and it was refreshing to see all the options available for not only vegetarians but also vegans. Most restaurants will throw a few veg friendly items on the menu as an after thought but this establishment went out of their way and created a phenomenal selection on par with the rest of their menu. The vegan menu was awesome and very creative, everything texturally was on point ( firm with just enough of a chew). Definitely a place worth trying out and supporting.

Food was good and reasonably priced and good portion size. I got 6 vegetable gyoza for $6.95 , 5 nice size spring rolls for $6.95, a nice size plate of veggie yakisoba $6.95 , and veggie lovers roll for $9.95 5 pieces everything was freshly made piping hot. The white peach spritzer was delicious. I lived in Japan for three years and just started my vegan journey and I came by here after trying to go to alkaline but it was closed and I was pleased to see how many vegan dishes were on the menu. So I guess it was fate. Total came out to be $34.74 for 5 items and I got a $4.34 meal tax I am unsure what that is but yeah every place tax everything so. ‍♀️ so $39.09 is what I paid it was filling with the 3 appetizers and the plate of veggie sushi rolls.

Stopped here for lunch. The menu is priced fairly. I received friendly table service and quick food service. The yakitori was very flavorful and yummy. I would have liked the chicken seared a little more though. The IZ Roll was pretty fulfilling and tasty. I added spicy mayo to my roll to maximize flavor! If I wasn’t moving out of town I could see myself returning.

I have lived in Japan and it has been so hard to find authentic Japanese food but look no further for this place is as real as it gets. I was so nostalgic during dinner, they bring out miso soup and salad as a complimentary starter. In order the Mt Fuji roll which was divine! I also ordered the tempura dinner and it was delicious! Great portions and even better taste! I will recommend this location to everyone who wants authentic Japanese cuisine!

The place here Reminds me of home. Being Japanese I’m usually skeptical about Japanese places in America but this brings back childhood memories in Japan. The owner is so sweet but is usually very busy cooking. However she usually comes out to say hello whenever there’s time. Sometimes it is very busy but patience pays off bc I usually go here multiple times a week since being stationed in VA. Became my favorite hangout go to place
