One of the best brunch spots in Evanston! This Mexican-inspired restaurant gets super busy and boisterous, so I recommend reserving a table ahead of time. Every interaction I had with the staff was pleasant, and despite the busyness, they always made sure my needs were attended to. The atmosphere is very lively with classic Latin music playing over the speakers and fun artwork celebrating the restaurant’s namesake, Frida Kahlo.
It was hard to choose a single dish with the great variety and numerous recommendations, but I settled on the Crunchy French Toast, which was a spectacular choice! The serving was very large, with four thick slices of brioche bread covered in a granola crust. The plating was gorgeous; the brioche was topped with fresh strawberries, more granola bits, lecherita (a type of sweetened condensed milk), warm raspberry coulis, powdered sugar, and the most velvety whipped cream. It was clear through both the presentation and taste that Frida’s puts plenty of care into their food. The French toast itself was buttery and not too sweet. The granola crust added a wonderful crunch and texture to the soft bread. The whipped cream and strawberries really brought the dish together, adding a creamy chill to the warm toast and natural, fruity sweetness.
I will no doubt be returning to try more items on their vast menu. Just observing the other tables’ huge plates inspired my future orders. The pancakes, crepes, and chilaquiles are all highly acclaimed, so it looks like I’ll have to frequent Frida’s for a long time!

Good place for brunch! Very authentic and good service with friendly staff. Food was delicious. You might have to wait in line though, as it seems to be a popular spot and gets quite crowded.

Absolutely delicious. Great service, great food, and great atmosphere what more could you ask for. I got the fridas fav burger which was amazing and my wife got the banana strawberry pancakes which were also awesome. Food came out fast and was very fresh. We’ll definitely be back.

I had chicken enchiladas and the meat inside the enchiladas which was supposed to be chicken- but looked like ground up prison meat. It was so dark I thought it was ground beef or mystery meat. They confirmed it was chicken. But still wasn’t appetizing. I cannot recommend it.

Even though the restaurant had several patrons and seems to be popular with gringos, I think for these people….this is their only option. But it isn’t a good one.

I wanted to like this restaurant because it seems independent, but it felt dirty outside and inside the bathroom and feels like it needs a slight renovation just to make it feel “cleaner”.

During the evening, I had the WORST flatulence and I know it was directly related to the food. Was excessive all night long.

Also, my husbands chilaquiles plate with carnitas was $26! I feel like for that price I could have gone to a very high end restaurant for what I was charged.

Had a lovely brunch with my ladies here. We sat outdoors and enjoyed some delicious, colorful delights. It would have been perfect had there not been screaming , deranged people across the street passing us by but I guess one can’t really control what happens in the general public. I asked to sit outdoors because inside it was completely jammed with people and felt stuffy and extremely loud. Outside was a gorgeous day and we had great service the entire time.

Fridas is absolutely delicious! I cannot return sooner. They have a large menu with very generous portions. Each dish we had was presented beautifully and tasted great! The location is cozy and not too far from a safe parking garage. My next visit I’ll most certainly be ordering an additional meal or 2 to go!

My partner and I enjoyed a fabulous breakfast at Frida’s. Our first visit didn’t disappoint. She had 2 perfectly poached egg cooked tenderly and served withwell spiced gravy on light biscuits. She said it was like the Goldilocks story with everything just right. Her dish also had a side of potatoes. I had the Frida’s special…chilaquiles. Delicious. As the serving was plenty I took some home and enjoyed them again. Service was awesome and the wait people were attentive. Looking forward to a return.
