The staff at The Anchor were very welcoming and made sure that my sulphite allergy was accounted for. We had Lamb shank with roast potatoes and vegetables which was delicious. I have given 4 stars as the plates could have been warmer.

Always wanted to visit this pub for the crab rolls. Decided to try it today for lunch after visiting Lyme Regis – we are all so disappointed very cold brioche buns; not sure if it was a crab paste on the rolls but it was really unappealing. My daughter’s Camembert was not cooked in the middle. I very much wanted to complain but we are just not too good at that. We just won’t return – such a shame. Good chips and beer / not sure what else to say.

Driven passed this place for 7 years and decided to stop for a spot of lunch. Lovely old style inn with a good selection of beers, ciders and spirits, as well as some fine wines. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had a sharing seafood platter which was absolutely amazing. Lobster, crab, scallops and prawns to name some of the platter. Was a picking lunch but were not rushed. Would highly recommend this place to any seafood lover.

The pub has gone down hill since the change of ownership. The menu has shrunk. You can no long have a table tab. It is now a pay as you go…they say it is to make it more efficient in the summer…but the new owners have not been here for a summer as they took over in Oct / Nov 2025. Wont be coming here again

If I could give it 6 stars I would. We stayed midweek for 3 nights, Tuesday to Thursday. From the get go we were made to feel really welcome and at home by the owner Paul and the Manager Andrea. Nothing was too much trouble. There are pictures of the room we stayed in, which had a Superking Size Bed, and in a separate room, two singles. There was also an en suite bathroom. It was all tastefully decorated and suitable for our needs. The food was of excellent quality. Breakfast was a choice of cereals, toast (with marmalade or jam), scrambled egg (with or without salmon), full English, tea, Italian coffee etc. The evening menu had mainly fish dishes. I had Hake in a Doombar batter with chips and mushy peas. Absolutely nailed it. It was so good I had it the next night too. On our last evening I chose a vegetarian option of Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli, which again was spot on (see picture), and the chocolate cheesecake with ice cream. Both were superb. I would highly recommend the Anchor Inn for either having an evening meal, or staying for a couple of nights. It is well run, very friendly and welcoming and dog friendly!

We come in as a group of six. No tables but plenty of single people sitting at tables that could have been used for larger groups. In the end we just squeezed on a round table. The male waiter who served us was brilliant he seems to know the menu very well. Food was great apart from the lasagne which was nothing more than a plate of cheese. In my view it should be taken of the menu untill sorted. The venue was lovely with a large view out onto the sea with a large decking area for sitting outside and smoking area. It wouldn’t take much to make this a 5 star restaurant with possibly winning rewards for some of its food and settings with just a few changes

Sublime food, really welcoming, we arrived with no reservation after a day spent walking along Portland bill, seafood was good to perfection. They even made our friendly border terrier very welcome.

The food was exceptional, prawn cocktail followed by the surf and turf for myself and my sister whilst her husband and my partner enjoyed the garlic mushrooms & seafood chowder to start and exceptional fillet steaks.

Staff were friendly and helpful, all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our evening, thank you

New Year’s Eve lunch at the Anchor. Food presentation & quality good. Ales good. Room was very drafty as customers entered or left, so not warm or cosy at all.

Great food, steak and scallops in particular are amazing. Despite being busy (they open Mondays when other pubs close) they were friendly and it didn’t feel crowded. Thank you
