Y’all the portion sizes at Ma Lou’s are out of control… after eating my fill it barely looks like I ate anything at all.
I had the OG with thigh meat on medium spice. 12/10 on portion size, but may be oily for some. May want to pat oil off the way some people do to pizza.
If you haven’t had the Brussels sprouts before, they’re not on the crispy side but the taste keeps me coming back. They’re the only sweet Brussels sprouts that I can think of a restaurant doing, they’re dense and yet so bright and almost lemony. I’d recommend the sauce on the side and add it to taste.
Fries (not shown) from here which I also had, are an extremely solid classic French fry. Perfect doneness, with some fries a little softer and some a little crunchier.

Does not get better than this place. Small local gem vibes. The best chicken, the best flavors, all housemade (including the sauces)… and to top that off, the staff are SO kind!

Anyone giving this place 1 star has no idea about good food, at all. The chicken is amazing, flavorful, delicious! French fries are golden and crispy! This is a great find in Ypsilanti!!!

Big fan of their chicken & waffles. Chickens are well-seasoned and never overcooked (I think it’s juicy and perfect for me, but some might find it undercooked). Waffles are on the crispier side than soft. High quality maple syrup and sides made in-house. Portion sizes huge. We’ll be back again and again.

When in the mood for chicken, we often trek from Ann Arbor to Ypsilanti, home of “The OG”… one of the best chicken sandwiches around! I recommend going with the thigh for added juiciness and flavor – the Gouda and slaw are delicious additions, and offset the spiciness (I normally go for medium heat, although southern style is also great if you don’t like spicy, or try Spicy AF if you are daring!). I also love that they have rotating specials, so today I tried the Seoul Sliders – so glad I did! The Gochujang BBQ sauce was very tasty, and loved the contrasting coolness of the cucumber and crunch of the kimchi. The fries are always fresh and hot, cooked perfectly… and love when I can add malt vinegar!

They are very friendly , as a new costumer they helped me to pick a good sandwich and a was not disappointed. The food is really good and I must say also big portions.

I got the BBQ special. Special indeed. The sauce was homemade. The chicken perfectly fried to a crisp, despite being drenched in saucy goodness. The inside was tender and juicy. Complimented with an array of delicious sides. Sweet potato fries were freshly cut and fried. Mac n cheese was a perfectly textured experience: with ooey gooey cheese and fried bits on top.
Key lime shake gives the pie a run for its money.
This place is a gem. I’d come here again. And again. And again.

Diana was super nice and kind over the phone, was patient and showed understanding and didnt make me feel like a burden. OG chicken sandwich is so good, the buns dont fall apart while eating it and everything comes together very nicely. I hope to try the tenders next as they look goood

To be honest I tried this place because of the positive reviews. And I was expecting to eat some delicious flavorful chicken. But I was sorely disappointed. Keep in mind I was really hungry because of work and decided to eat at this place.
The problem is there is 0 flavor on the fried chicken. I got 3 different pieces for $3 a piece. The food LOOKED good, but when I actually started eating it, there was 0 flavor. Just oil. I’m confused because the food has a nice seasoned red appearance, but was lacking any sort of flavor whatsoever. Paprika? No. I wasn’t able to taste any flavor whatsoever. Look at my pictures to see the oil puddle. When I was eating it, the fried skin was falling off… and the actual meat has 0 flavor.
The fries were oily and came in a brown paper bag. The fries are nothing special.
I’m so disappointed because KFC fried chicken has way better flavor and crunchy skin than this!!! I’m really confused why everyone is talking about this place having the best fried chicken because I didn’t get that at all.
