Absolutely the best home cooking you’re going to find in the area. Biscuits and gravy were phenomenal and steak fingers were so good! Their gravy is some of the best I’ve ever had. A gem of a find!

If you’re looking for that classic, no-frills, “everybody knows your name” kind of diner, this is it. Walking into Mendy’s feels like stepping into a warm hug from your favorite aunt. The place is pure down-home comfort: mismatched coffee mugs, and the faint sound of old-school country or classic rock drifting from the kitchen where the cook is happily singing along while flipping pancakes.
Mendy herself is the heart of the place. She greets regulars by name before they even hit the door, steering them to “their” booth and rattling off their usual order with a grin (“Two over easy, hash browns extra crispy, and don’t even think about skimping on the bacon, right Frank?”). First-timers get the exact same treatment, she’ll size you up with a smile, call you “hon,” and suddenly you’re sitting in the perfect spot with a coffee in front of you like you’ve been coming every Sunday for the last ten years.
Breakfast is served all day (and thank goodness for that), because sometimes you need a giant plate of biscuits and gravy at 2 p.m. and Mendy gets it. Portions are downright generous, bring an appetite or a friend to help finish. Everything tastes like it was made by someone who actually cares: fluffy pancakes, crispy hash browns, eggs cooked exactly how you asked. And the prices? You’ll do a double-take at the bill and wonder how they’re still in business charging so little in 2025.
Come hungry, leave happy, and probably planning your next visit before you’re out the door. Mendy’s isn’t just a diner, it’s a little slice of home, whether it’s your first time or your five-hundredth.

Ate lunch there and this place is perfect! Old time atmosphere with down home cooking. I saw a sign saying they get their beef from a ranch, not a store, and the burger was delicious!

Idk if the food is good but if you’re not country white folk you sure do get stared down like you don’t belong in there and it makes it very uncomfortable..

Mendy met me at the door at 1:45 I was concerned they were closing but she said it was auction day and were open much later. I sat at my usual place the bar and ordered the chicken fry steak, mashed potatoes and corn with sweet tea. Texas is going to have to annex that little place called Durant so they can lay claim to the best chicken fry. Hand on service, I went into the auction barn and noticed that Mendy was in and out taking orders and delivering food. It is a level of service and food that I don’t see where I live in Plano, TEXAS. Just a lovely place to eat with a family atmosphere. They have my business every Thursday afternoon if I am not sub teaching HS in Plano. Oh, I am beginning to learn the difference on BOY AND GIRL cattle.
