Why We Love It:
The Chef’s Specials: We’ve ordered almost every special roll on the menu at this point, and they are consistently delicious. You can tell the fish is fresh and the combinations are well-thought-out.
Generous Portions: Unlike many sushi spots that overcharge for tiny bites, the portions here are very satisfying. You definitely get your money’s worth.
Kid-Approved: Our kids absolutely love the Salmon Teriyaki. It’s their favorite spot to go get dinner after gymnastics.
Atmosphere: It is incredibly family-friendly. The staff always makes us feel welcome, which makes dining out with the whole crew much less stressful.
If you’re looking for a reliable, tasty, and welcoming sushi spot, this is it. We’ll see you guys next Friday!
We had the Albacore delight, rainbow and Hawaii roll. All were delicious. We also had the baked mussels, those were super good. This was pur 41th time there. We have never had anything even close to “alright” every roll we’ve tried has been great. You won’t regret this place. Fresh fish and excellent taste.
First ate at the Simi Valley spot and was immediately impressed
This review is overdue as the TO Blvd spot has now been open over a year now
This spot definitely deserves more recognition as I think they are a top-tier local sushi restaurant and we will be going more often
So…
Sitting at the bar is a must
The chef(s) was so friendly and explained where each fish was caught and why he prepared it a certain way (think it was Tomas)
The fish here is on another level
We had the Toro (fatty tuna) and it literally melted the second it hit my tongue
You can tell they source high-quality, fresh cuts, the Yellowtail Belly was buttery and had zero ‘fishy’ aftertaste
The Bluefin was so fresh served with a tiny bit of
Kizami-Wasabi on top it tasted like we were eating it in Hawaii
Even the Salmon and Albacore were heavenly delicious
It’s the kind of quality you usually only find at high-end omakase spots in the city
Oh and the Scallops seemed super fresh melting in your mouth
This is a hidden gem for purists
They use real wasabi (not the green paste), and the chef brushes a light layer of nikiri (house-made soy glaze) on each piece, so you don’t even need to dip it
As earlier noted, they had Kizami-Wasabi a relish made from the real, chopped wasabi stem, which offers a unique crunchy texture and a well-rounded, sharp heat that fades cleanly
It’s an authentic experience where the craftsmanship of the chef(s) really shines through
Well, we don’t order rolls, everyone else was and they were Huge!
The atmosphere was very cozy and the decor is beautiful
I also appreciated all the TVs so I could watch some sports while not detracting from the conversation with my dinner partner
Even though it was a busy night, the service was attentive and we never felt rushed
It felt less like a meal and more like a curated experience
Also this place respects the rice!
Anyone who eats a lot of sushi knows that the rice is 50% of the sushi
The shari was served at the perfect temperature, seasoned with just enough vinegar to complement the fish without overpowering it
The grains were distinct and held together perfectly – not that cold, mushy fridge-style rice you get at cheaper places
Worth the price, not any more expensive than most other local options and the quality justifies it!
They also have some limited shared off street parking located nextdoor to the newly opened Santal TO Apt Bldg a sign posted 2HR PARKING TIL 9PM
Also a short walk for street parking
And for a upscale date night experience I believe the nextdoor restaurant Basta offers valet parking
However, either way tell them “Woody’s Review” brought you back!
I think you’ll be very satisfied eating here!
Service was good overall, but some of the servers are not as familiar with the higher quality fish and lean more to the popular hipster rolls.
One area of improvement would be the sake selection. It would offer a much better option for the higher quality fish.
Overall, it is one of the better sushi restaurants in the area if you’re not looking for traditional omakase.
We will definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for good quality fish and broad menu that is also kid friendly
gluten free soy sauce.
You will be presented with the large and expected variety of rolls SoCal sushi spots are known for, and everything we sampled was quite tasty and made with quality ingredients with evident pride. The nigiri, however was unexpectedly good – Amberjack, Yellowtail, Salmon, and especially the Toro were fresh, delicious and honestly more generous in portion than most of the restaurants I’ve eaten in and around Los Angeles.
And lastly, the service was exceptional – our waitress was helpful, conversational, and made many suggestions which enhanced both our drink and food choices – thank you!
