Kendells Bistro is a casual Informal place to dine with the main focus on quality of food, wine and service within a French bistro atmosphere. It’s relaxed and informal – no waiters topping up wine glasses after every sip or sneaking up behind you with a six foot pepper mill. Cloth napkins but not starched, blackboard menus and open plan kitchen, intimate cosy candles flickering, friendly without pretence. In fact we are so french we don’t charge for bread and we don’t have a service charge!

Unstarched cloth napkins, flickering candles and blackboard menus of classic French dishes.

Absolutely amazing restaurant. The service was second to none. The food was just perfect. I couldn’t have wished for anything better. I highly recommend this place for all. Also very affordable.
I proposed to my partner in this restaurant and they made it really special for us, with champagne and home made macaroons. They also presented it on a slate tray with “congratulations”. Absolutely amazing

This looked like and felt like it was an institution a while ago but everything was left in the past and has not progressed. The service was quite cold, and impersonal. There was no interactions beyond taking the orders and even when were making the payments at the end, I felt we were treated as if we were going to eat and run.. The only saving grace was when we ordered the bottle of wine and we did not like the taste, they were able to exchange it to another one as the other bottle was served by the glass also. The food was acceptable at best – the soups – both fish and onion soup – were quite thin and watery and was lukewarm. The main dishes were acceptable, but did not excite my pallet. Overall, the experience was quite underwhelming compared to what I had in mind from a bistro.

The food was generally salty for me, but most British food is salty, so I can understand. However, beyond that, the romantic atmosphere, comfortable conversation environment, friendly and attentive servers, and the attention to detail that took care of this special occasion make it more than satisfying to have a pleasant day. Thank you!

What an amazing little gem of a romantic restaurant in Leeds city centre. The idealised Parisian style was reflected in the decor creating a truly Authentic French experience.

For our 3rd wedding anniversary celebration, I chose Kendell’s Bistro after seeing it pop up in my social media. After several years of visiting my sister in Paris, I love French food. As soon I stepped through the door, I was in France! From the candle lit tables to the mouthwatering menu. Kendell’s Bistro is as good as, if not even better, than some of the places I have eaten in Paris. It did not disappoint. Obviously, I had to start with the French onion soup. My husband had duck liver pate. For our main, we both chose the slow roast duck leg with dauphinoise potato’s and green beans. I was really looking forward to having a dessert but I was so full from starter and main, I couldn’t let myself not appreciate the dessert to its full potential. So it was a lovely surprise when we received our bill, the staff looking after us, made our visit even more special with two complimentary petit fours that were presented beautifully on a slate that read “Bon anniversaire”. It was a lovely touch to an already wonderful first experience here. Next time, I will either share or skip the starter, as I have the sweetest tooth and I need to try the desserts! The mocktail I had was so tasty. Overall, I can’t wait to visit again. I’ll definitely bring my sister and her French partner when they next visit England. I cannot wait to share the experience of Kendell’s Bistro with them. I especially think her French partner will love to see sticky toffee pudding on the menu!

Overall, to summarise my review, the atmosphere, service from wonderful staff and the food were 10/10. One word – flawless!

I’m already excited for our next visit. A true Leeds hidden gem which I won’t keep to myself.

We have ordered tea time set menu. Portion okay even though it is french cuisine. Causal and informal without sacrifice on food quality.

A bit too dark. For people need reading in good light, better read menu before coming.

Mood for chatting is fabulous. Staff are nice and well trained.

Came here from a recommendation but was disappointed and wouldn’t recommend.
The decor and vibe was nice and romantic with candle lit tables in a dimly lit room.
The service was great. Staff were friendly and attentive.
We ordered one cocktail and it was really nice and well made.
The night that we went was very busy with large bookings which made it too loud to hear a conversation but I guess that couldn’t be helped.
The main letdown was the food.
For starters I had the goats cheese and beetroot tart which had a tiny slice of goats cheese and an overcooked base. For mains I had the duck confit and my partner had the steak. The duck was nice but everything in the dish lacked individual flavours. There was black pudding, Dauphinoise potatoes, and green beans and they all had a single taste. The fillet steak was swapped for a serloin as they were out and the whole thing was filled with fat and gristle. The onion rings were also still completely soaked in oil.

It’s a nice place but disappointing food.

Very traditional internal decor considering its in a modern building.
Food was good quality. Service was nice as well as polite.
We had some of our party arrive late so the waiter explained the timings on food which was helpful.

However as good as the main courses were the complimentary bread whilst we waited was the star showing.
Absolutely beautiful

I’d happily sit with a bowl of soup and a pile of that bread.

As some say it’s dark, however it’s clear from the pictures the environment is set up like that.

The food was incredible! Even down to the bread which needed no oil or vinegar, just perfectly seasoned and chewy on its own. We got the french onion soup, black pudding starter, beef bourguignon, roast chicken, creme brûlée and chocolate fondant cake. All was super tasty, it was very clear so much care and attention was put into the ingredients and the quality really showed. I really enjoyed the beef bourguignon, very rich and tender meat. The atmosphere here was amazing, we loved the romantic candlelit vibes and fairy lights. we can on Valentines weekend so just a perfect restaurant for celebrating love with good food! Highly recommend booking in advance.
