At our Opelika, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!
I went here on my lunch break. I was in town for a job and they wasted half my lunch time before they told me that I needed to pay with cash because their credit card machine wasn’t communicating. Up to that point they had told me that my food was cooking and that I would be able to pay at the drive through register. After the first 10 minute of not seeing any progress on my food or my payment I asked them again. They gave me a drink and I waited another 5 minutes. Finally I was like, look, am I going to be able to pay and get my food and that was when they said I needed to pay with cash, which I had made very clear that I could not do. So I left and had to rush through my lunch over at Guthries to get back to my job. While I sat there I also observed how scuzzy the place looked. It looked as though their drink machine had leaked all through the wall and into the floor. I’m kind of glad I didn’t get my food. I’m not sure how clean the rest of that kitchen was. If I could have given this place zero stars I absolutely would have.
1/28/26 – replying to Captain D’s reply. I appreciate your offer to have me contact you to make it right. However, the only means your site link gives for me to contact you is to supply you with my E-mail address which you would then have to send me advertisement that I do not want. Additionally, I went to you restaurant while on the road for work away from my home area. We do not have Captain D’a where I live, so I’m not sure how you would make it up to me anyway. And even if you could, I don’t think I would waste my time going to another one anyway.

The very nice lady at the drive thru just gave me an entire extra order of chicken with my family meal!!! And a whole bag of sauces! Such wonderful service, and the food was prepared the PROPER way. The way captain ds food is supposed to be made. That’s the kind of service that money can’t buy.

Probably the worst fish and hush puppies I’ve ever had from a captain d’s. Both pieces of fish were the size of the one pictured, and no, fish does not fill all of that. The actual fish part was no wider than my thumb on one end and then no wider than my pinky on the other. The first piece, which I ate and hope I don’t get sick, had a slightly fishy taste and had the texture of rubber on the inside and was oddly hard on the outside. This piece of fish, which I refuse to eat, smells the same and feels the same. It’s weirdly dark for a white fish as well. The hush puppies had the strangest texture. It’s like they were cooked juuuust enough but also not mixed well at all so when I bit into them they just crumbled. Half my fries are ice cold while the other half are warm. The only decent thing about this meal was my coleslaw.
It’s seriously like they had food sitting there and nuked it in a microwave and gave it to me. Truly awful. On top of that, the workers weren’t rude, but they have no idea how to serve customers. I walked in and the lady walked up and just looked at me. No greeting nothing. When I said I was there to pick up an online order, she just said, “it’s not ready” and started walking off. One of the cooks wiped his GLOVED HANDS on his jeans and then proceeded to cook and touch things. What is the point of putting gloves on if you’re just going to wipe them on your jeans?! No, if you touch something that isn’t food with gloves, you remove those gloves, wash your hands, and put new gloves on. Hello! Food safety?!
I will be calling up to the store first thing to get a refund because I couldn’t even finish my meal because it was so gross. Truly disappointing.

Pulled up tonight at 8:30. All workers sitting outside. Place my order and it was ready before I could drive around to the window. I guess they thought they could drop the old cooked fish back in the grease and no one would notice. The fish was so greasy you could squeeze it out. The fries and hush puppies were cold. I’m sure if I did eat it. I would be sick!!!

My husband and I always comes up to this location and we buy the family 10 piece battered fish every time once before they accidentally mixed Chicken in with our fish and took care of it for us with not a problem this time once again they add more chicken than fish in there and I do not like the chicken neither does my chihuahua and when I called I was told that it’s a new fish that it tastes like chicken well I’m not quite that dumb chicken and fish have two different textures two different taste not to mention chicken is dryer and truly does not taste the same so basically I was told that the chicken was fish so I hung up and the chicken is still sitting on my stove uneaten very very unhappy honestly if I wanted chicken I would have went to KFC

Restaurant was clean. Staff was friendly. Service was slow considering they weren’t very busy. Drinks do not come with meals making the prices too high for what you get.
