My boyfriend and I visited last month while visiting Indianapolis, and we both really enjoyed our meal! I have had to-go food from the other location (on 30th St.) about a year ago and it was good there as well but this time sitting inside (at the 86th location) definitely made the overall experience better. There wasn’t too many people inside due to the snow but the energy was still there! Our server Grace was really nice and attentive! 🙂

Ordered online to-go from their website, pick-up at the location on West 86th street. The staff were so incredibly friendly, I’d go back just to chit chat with them! That food, though….if you want to know what food is supposed to taste like, GO HERE! We ordered the smothered fried chicken breast, the smothered pork chop, cabbage, potato salad, green beans, mashed potatoes and corn bread. I consider myself a pretty good cook, this meal humbled me. NO lack of flavor in any of it! We will 1000% be back to try everything on the menu. I’m so close to calling them just to say thank you.

Everything was delicious! My grandmother had recently came for the first time and fell in love so for our early family Christmas present she brought 14 of us & it did not disappoint! I had the smothered fried pork chop with collard greens and the sweet potato side and it was perfection! We took home banana pudding and it was excellent! We can’t wait to come again & try different things!

My parents came in from out of town. They had seen this place on TV and wanted to go. I knew immediately by the clientele that the food was going to be amazing. We skipped dinner because we were still completely stuffed from lunch.

The best fried chicken I’ve had in a long time. Portions are big, and food is freshly cooked. Table service, and they do take out as well. No bar, but the food makes up for it! They have several desserts. We got desserts to go. The banana pudding was delicious. The peach cobbler was burnt and tasted awful. My mom had it before and said it was good the last time, but this time was inedible.

I had an amazing experience dining in at His Place. I was greeted by a big smile at the front, another lady walked us to our table and told me I was beautiful and our server Ciara didn’t miss! Food was excellent 10/10 can’t wait to come back! I love getting carry out as well, especially because they open every container and make sure you’re not missing anything! Best meatloaf I’ve ever had.

His Place Eatery is one of the few restaurants I can say I truly love. The atmosphere is pretty plain—but the food is anything but. Every dish, right down to the sides, bursts with flavor.
This is soul food made with love—ribs, meatloaf, fried chicken, collard greens, candied yams, mac n’ cheese… it’s all done right. The place is clean, the service is quick and friendly, and the prices are great. If you love comfort food, I can’t recommend it enough.

My mother is from Mississippi, so I was raised on soul food by the best cook I know. That means I’m very picky when it comes to soul food restaurants-but this place passed the test!
We decided to visit on February 28,2025, to support a local Black-owned business during the Economic Blackout, and apparently, everyone else had the same idea. It was packed! Despite the crowd, I had a wonderful experience. The waitress was great, the food came out hot and delicious, and the sweet tea was perfect.
I highly recommend this spot – even for the pickiest soul food critics. It’s that good.
