If you want Thai or Japanese food,Somkit,(Formerly Touch of Thai) is the place to go when in Dixon Illinois.

Located in downtown, open Tuesday-Saturday,they offer a nice selection of lunch and dinner specials

My wife is Gluten Free and they were very accommodating. Service was fantastic!…thank you Leichan S.

My wife had Panang Curry with brown rice. I had the Chicken Pad See Eiw with a Philly Roll. Needless to say,we had no leftovers! Everything had great flavor .

You can dine in ,delivery or carry-out, either way you will not be disappointed. You can expect fast service, authentic cuisine and fantastic Asian cuisine.

The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was exceptional throughout our entire dining experience. Every dish we ordered was a culinary delight, and the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and at ease. One small suggestion: dress warmly, as the restaurant can get a bit chilly due to the door opening to the outside. Despite this minor inconvenience, we had a fantastic time and highly recommend this place. Our server, Alex, was also fantastic!

I am of a certain age where I remember when the first iteration of Somkit, came to Dixon. It was called Touch of Thai, and if you timed your visit just right, the practice of martial arts upstairs and associated noises, accompanied your meal.

Now as then, a visit to this family owned and operated restaurant is always a treat. When I took a business class many years ago, I remember the cautionary wisdom of the instructor trying to steer any of us away from becoming restauranteers as the failure rate was obnoxiously high in the first handful of years. Somkit has staying power and for good reason!

Last night, a family member needed a hand in Dixon, and upon wrapping things up, my daughter and I were both a little hungry. It was an easy choice to wander downtown and a glimpse through the restaurant window, showed the dinner rush had passed.

Grabbing a seat, my daughter and I perused the menu. As we are on the cusp of a trip to Spain, she stretched her palette in preparation for trying new foods and ordered sushi she normally wouldn’t try. I also mixed things up and instead of ordering my go to Tom Yum, I ordered the Thai Chicken Noodle Soup with the seaweed salad as a starter.

On a side note, before posting a review, I don’t typically read previous reviews, but today I did. Many people posted about slow service. Again, I have had multiple meals with this family through the years and feel the need to add my .02. I have never felt the service was particularly slow. Having lived overseas and traveling fairly extensively, the speed of the service aligns with higher end restaurants the world over that understand part of the experience is the interconnectedness of the ambiance, people and anticipation; it is not to be rushed but savored.
And the anticipation has always paid off and it did last night.

As I mentioned above, I switched things up and went with the Thai Chicken Noddle. When the bowl arrived, the smells emanating from it were intoxicating. The garlic and cilatro fought for primacy, interwoven and enticing but as I took the first bite, it was the broth that won the day!

The broth was silky and sublime, which one would not expect from a $10 bowl of soup. It was Garlic forward, but constructed so that it did not overpower the nuanced flavor profile. Digging in for a full bite with broth, noodles and chicken was combination I could eat day in and day out. It was perfectly balanced and satisfied any and all anticipation!

My daughter tore through her sushi quickly, enjoying it and, as she has since about the age of 2, asked if she could taste mine which is code for her asking to share it!

As with all great meals and companionship, it ended too quickly. We made our way back home, wrapping up another day.

As you make your restaurant choices, do so with intention. Look for places that make time stand still, if but for a moment, where connections can be strengthened, renewed or started. Seek out places like Somkit!

Nice atmosphere, the staff was friendly. We got to sit in a cozy area however the cushions were dirty, lots of food stains, looked kind of gross. The decor is nice, trendy and the food was great! I definitely will be going there again but maybe just sit somewhere else.

Pot stickers were tasty. I liked them cooked a little more crispy. Good flavor. Sauce was okay. Nothing special.

Spicy mussels were spicy with okay flavor. Again, not wow but good.

Panang curry with tofu and a side of brown rice. The rice could have cooked a little more, no flavor or seasoning, but a goof blend. The curry portion was goof sized and had really good flavor. One spice level from what I could tell and it was not too much or too little. Enjoyable.

Pad tahi with chicken best part of the meal. Super well done and lots of flavor.

Coconut kisses foe dessert was the other really goof part of the meal. Really enjoyed that dessert.

The server was attentive and caring. Atmosphere was clean and homey. Would visit again.

Sometimes it is hard to rate food adequately with takeout, it could be dine in is better. We got the dynamite sushi which was very good, the Phad Thai was better than average. The chicken teriyaki was okay but with smaller portions than I have had elsewhere and the chicken was in a broth where I expected a sauce.

Somkit used to be one of out favorite places to eat but sadly they have a sign on the door stating due to covid they are lacking in kitchen help so you should be patient and boy did it prove to be the fact. We were initially the only guests and service still took a very long time. The hostess was outstanding she is very quick and friendly but after that everything took a very long time. The food is definitely not as good as it used to be the Lumpia was over cooked and the filling was lacking in flavor, most of our meal was lacking in flavor and presentation.
We will definitely go back again to give them another chance but we will definitely wait for a while in hopes they get themselves together and it goes back to their past excellence.

Very delicious. Loved the cucumber salad. The spring rolls were actually spring rolls, lovely! Next time going to try more for sure. The teriyaki salmon was a bit sweet which is expected for teriyaki but a little more than usual teriyaki. Still good, though.

Excellent food, slow service. The food was great, I had the pad sew eiw and would order it again. The service was slow despite us being the only customers in the place at the time. I also had the Blue Line drink. I thought it would be a sweet beverage but it wasn’t, no stars deducted since some people prefer non-sweet drinks.
