Jada was very friendly and knowledgeable at this Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. The beef fat candle was very flavorful. The mushroom conserva was savory, spicy and delicious. The paella was expertly crafted. I highly recommend this restaurant for someone looking for small plate, creative and delicious gourmet food.

We have been here a few times over the years and come here mainly for their beef fat candle. I fell in love with it the first time we came when they first opened. This time it wasn’t quite up to par. The candle didn’t burn long enough to melt the fat properly, so by the end you were eating concealed fat pieces on the bread, a bit gross. The bread was overdone, so too hard/crunchy and not absorbing the dip properly. I asked for fresh bread and they brought out some, which is how I found out the bread is “fresh from the fridge” instead of “fresh from the oven”. I expected more at a restaurant like this. I am hoping this was a fluke since we did not have similar issues before instead of the restaurant/dish has gone downhill. Will try it again before we write it off forever.

We also tried the Mushroom Conserva. It was different and pretty flavorful. I don’t know that I would order it again, but it was good to try.

The ambiance is always good here, definitely a good date night location if you are in the mood to splurge a bit.

Good experience. Haven’t done tapas in a while and from what I could tell, OvenBird doesn’t specifically market itself as a tapas restaurant. Given that, I appreciated that our server set the tone and let us know what most diners do in terms of number of plates and methods.

Food was good. Our table ordered the empanadas ($14 for simply 2 empanadas is pretty crazy, the quantity was not made known on the menu). Also ordered the paella, which was solid, proteins consisted of Chicken and Conecuh Sausage, which was a nice Southern twist on paella.

They were good, but the price point was not ideal. I ordered the Choripan (very good) and Snapper Throat (also good, a bit heavy on the BBQ sauce). Great experience, good ambience.

Wow! This has to be some of the best food I have ever had. We had five different dishes and two desserts. Everything was wonderful flavorful and perfectly cooked. They have tables right near the grill. I recommend sitting there. I’ll definitely go back.

Ovenbird is a great local restaurant with a very unique and delicious. Take on South American and central American cuisine. Lots of really good dishes on their menu one thing to be aware of their a small dish restaurant. Some of the portions were enough for our table to share around, but the majority of them were single person Size dishes, but they were still very good if you’re going alone, I recommend ordering 2 to 3E items from the menu and if you are going with a group, then you might be able to get away with only two items per person and then share around with each other lots of very Unique flavors that you won’t find at other restaurants here in Birmingham I ordered the mushrooms and the hanger steak I found the mushrooms to be amazing. They were just right and cooked perfectly. The steak I thought was a little overdone, and the portion of the steak for the cost was a little bit higher than anticipated. The potatoes that came with the steak weren’t very good in my opinion. I also had the chocolate cake for dessert. It’s more of a chocolate mousse, but it is delectable. it is amazing and I highly recommend it and the mushrooms. Someone else at our table ordered the seafood for Dale’s and it was amazing. I personally liked it a lot more than the steak. We also had at our table the empanadas the roasted chicken and the chef inspired paella if I were to rank everything we ate or tried I would say number one the seafood for potatoes number two the mushroom conserves number three the chef inspired paella number for the roasted chicken number five hanger steak number six empanadas and then we also had the ceviche and I would say it was probably up there in the top four it was very good as for the desserts they didn’t have any cheesecake while we’re there but they did have Tres Leche and chocolate cake they pair amazingly together personally I’m not a huge chocolate fan, but I loved the chocolate cake. I actually liked it a little more than the Tres Leche the environment was very cozy and warm, kind of gave mountain chalet vibes. We ate inside and the weather was a little drizzly, but having all the windows and everything it just felt so cozy location. It’s easy to find easy to get to lots of parking right around there very convenient. It is a little more difficult to know where it’s at right off the bat the Google maps puts it just slightly off on the pin you go into the main parking lot that’s right there and it’s right in the center has just a little sign and if you park on the street, walk past the butcher shop into the parking lot and it will be the first building on the staff where is super friendly one was really nice to work with lots of good recommendations and we went on a Tuesday evening about 730s when we got there and there wasn’t like anyone else in the restaurant. It was really empty, which was really nice so it felt like we had the whole place ourselves.

OvenBird is a unique experience that I have not had in the Birmingham area. Your experience starts the moment you step onto the property. The decor is so unique and inviting, I love the open floor plan, and the food is very flavorful and unique. I didn’t leave with a super heavy feeling but was also satisfied. It’s a ‘dinning experience’ so be prepared to spend some time there. The tapas menu also allows for foodie discussions at the table. Also, ask questions about the dishes! Some are chef inspired.

One of the best dinners my wife and I have had in a while. The night we visited, all the windows and doors were open, so whether you were seated in the courtyard or dining room, it felt amazing.

Our server took her time explaining the restaurant concept, making sure we understood dishes and portions.

Cocktails and food was perfect!

Will definitely be returning soon to try rest of the amazing menu.

Our second time here. I have nothing negative to say about Helen, but it has been dethroned as my wife’s and my favorite restaurant downtown. Ovenbird is the best in Birmingham for my buck. (Don’t worry Helen, we like variety. We’ll be back soon.)
