Yesterday, February 14th, my husband and I went to this restaurant on the Halifax waterfront and we were welcomed very nicely. The problem started once we sat down and the waitress who would be “serving” us during our visit arrived. She was kind when she first greeted us, but as soon as we started speaking Spanish, her attitude completely changed. The discrimination was evident.

We placed our order, which took around 40 minutes to arrive. Other diners were offered bread with oil while they waited, and their meals arrived in less than 20 minutes. We were not offered that complimentary starter, and we waited a very long time to receive our food. The other servers checked on their tables frequently to make sure everything was okay, while our waitress only approached us twice.

The second time, we asked for the dessert menu and she literally threw it onto the table instead of placing it down politely. Because of that, we decided not to order dessert , we just asked for the bill and left.

The service was terrible. If you are Spanish-speaking and plan to visit this restaurant, I hope you do not get the same waitress we had, because you may leave as disappointed as we did. In a place that welcomes so many tourists, xenophobia and racism should not exist.

First time at Water Polo, with my best friend for our annual Christmas dinner together. The atmosphere was excellent, very friendly staff, warm welcome and coat check at the door. They offered us a little 2oz drink on the house which was a nice touch. It was a house infused rhubarb gin cocktail which was very tasty. We also ordered dry martinis which were also tasty. Bread came which is a Japanese milk bread bun along lobster infused oil and balsamic vinegar- very yummy. We ordered the bluefin tuna carpaccio and the ceviche from the Raw menu. The carpaccio was incredible with the crème fresh and the caviar. The ceviche I could have done without – it was tasty but not enough fish, too much cucumber. I also didn’t like the tortilla chips it came with but that’s just a preference. I would skip this next time. Next was the beef and scallop dumpling and the beet salad both incredible and finally the sea bream. Wow. Absolutely incredible. The flavour, the crispy skin, capers, cooked perfectly. I will definitely be back very soon not only for the food but also for the service. Aman was incredible and offered the best service I’ve had in a very long time. Many thanks Aman!

I ordered ceviche as appetizer, it was tasty and flavourful. Only thing I would add more shrimps or any other seafood. It would be perfect. As my main, I ordered the AAA beef tenderloin was so tender and smooth, really worth it. The crispy potato pavé, it was crispy but I felt something missing in the flavour but it was good in general. Cócteles were the best 10/10. I recommend bare essentials and matchmaker. Last but not least, cheesecake was beautiful, and creme brule.

My husband took me to Water Polo Restaurant for my birthday, and we didn’t regret it one bit — it was the best choice! The food and service were absolutely incredible. We loved their seafood — especially the Scallop Crispy Rice Sushi, Fish & Chips, and Snow Crab Croquettes — everything was so fresh and delicious.

The environment was amazing too. It was a beautiful day, so we enjoyed sitting on the outdoor patio, which made the experience even more special.

A big thank-you to Juliana, who helped us with everything — from suggesting non-alcoholic options to wishing me a happy birthday. She and the team surprised me with a free ice cream topped with a candle, which made my birthday so memorable.

Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great seafood, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere!

My friends and I dined at Water Polo for their birthday and we couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate. The food was phenomenal, the drinks were 10/10 and the service was fantastic. The staff was beyond lovely, especially our server Oliver. I can’t eat most seafood but there was still plenty of options for me and I was extremely impressed with what I did get: Beef Tartar as a starter and the Tortelloni for my main. Highly recommend dining here!

My first visit to Water Polo was indeed a pleasant experience. The seafood was very fresh. I thought the service was excellent as well, and the cocktails were great. I hope to visit their place again on my birthday to try more of their other delicacies.

We visited the restaurant to participate in the Dine Around menu event on the last Friday of February. Knowing it would likely be busy approaching the weekend, I made an early reservation for 5:45 p.m., and we arrived at 5:40 p.m.
Upon entering, no one greeted us, even though there was a server in a red polo shirt nearby organizing menus and facing away from us. We were speaking at a normal volume and were only a few steps away, so it was odd that we were not acknowledged.
When we placed our order, everything was fine initially, but after finishing our appetizers, we waited about 30 minutes for our mains. During this time, our water was not refilled, and no one checked in with us. I understand the restaurant got busy around 6 p.m., but this level of delay and lack of attention was uncomfortable, especially since it was a date night.
When one of the mains, the Miso Black Cod, arrived, the dish did not match the menu description on the Dine Around website or PDF. There was no crispy rice, wakame, or cucumber; instead, it came with bok choy and mushrooms. While we have no food allergies, a heads-up about the change before placing the order would have been appreciated.
Later, I asked the waitress for clarification about the menu change (not in a compensation-seeking way), and a manager-looking staff member eventually brought a separate plate. However, the plate was simply dropped on our table with an abrupt attitude — nothing was said except “here’s the crispy rice.” We didn’t ask for this replacement, so it was unclear why it was delivered this way. If the restaurant intended to make up for the uninformed menu change, at the very least the quality of the food should have been ensured. The “crispy rice” itself was a massive chunk of white cooked rice that had been deep-fried and was completely tasteless.
We then waited another 30 minutes for dessert. During this time, our water glasses remained empty, and we couldn’t easily find a server to check in. Overall, our 3-course meal took about two hours, despite our early arrival intended to avoid long waits. This made the evening awkward, as I felt uncomfortable that my date didn’t have water or that we had no food on the table for long periods.
Given the price we paid and the high expectations for a restaurant that is part of a reputable fine dining group in town, the experience was disappointing. While the menu itself had potential, the combination of slow service, lack of communication, and inconsistencies in the food left a negative impression.

The seafood tower is a must when coming here! The food was well curated and made with care. You can tell the seafood isn’t cheap and well worth the $$ you get for the tower. We also got the parm fries, croquettes, tuna sushi, beef tartare, and lobster Mac and cheese and there was honestly not a single bad dish!
The service was top notch and everyone that came by took care of us, from the minute we walked in, to the moment we walked out.
The design of the restaurant was also well thought out.. no over head lighting, mood lighting everywhere which made you want to stay longer by how cozy it was.
The cocktails were also very well made! 100% can’t wait to return! Especially in the summer when patio season comes around! There is no wonder why they were voted best patio in HRM

This is my first time at this establishment and I was blown away! When you’re in Halifax you need to get lobster! The lobster was humongous and meaty for $40 USD. As for the raw oysters they were $2 a piece a little pricey as I’m used to being $20-22 for one dozen. However, the raw oysters were mixed by location and taste on the tray. Everything at this restaurant is superior and well put together. Even their bathrooms gives off the 1920’s wooden speed boat vibes. You won’t be disappointed by any bits! I’ll definitely be back.
