I should have checked the sandwiches when I picked up the order but since my clear instructions were printed on the receipt that was stapled to the bag, I figured they got it right. Boy, was I wrong. It’s as if they didn’t even read it. Chili maple drizzle was on the Sunrise Sizzler and it was not on the Sweet & Spicy. And I wouldn’t call it a drizzle. There were wet brown spots on the inside of the bottom bagel, as if they dabbed or brushed a bit on. In addition, the bagels must have been toasted for 2 seconds because they were dry and doughy, not at all crunchy or crispy. It was like pulling a bagel out of a bag and eating it that way. The one positive is that my order was ready on time but everything else was a huge disappointment, especially at $11-$12 per sandwich.
I got an iced latte with cinnamon bun pumpkin situation and it was so good. We got bagels with cream cheese which came quickly. Nice space to work, or to just chat and hangout with friends!
I came to the taproom and decided to try food from Birdhouse, as this place now serves as a kitchen for the brewery. Unfortunately, my overall experience was underwhelming. We ordered a pizza, fried pickles and a cream cheese Danish. You receive bakery items immediately from the shelf, but the wait time for all the rest is pretty long. I visited this place on Monday which is not the busiest of days. Fried pickles were ready within about 20 minutes, while pizza came out only after 40 minutes wait.
The fried pickles were not good. They were crisp up to the point of being burnt, not juicy at all. I can tell that the spices they used were pretty good, but the way they fried them ruined the taste. The pizza was a similar experience – not only the crust was burnt and just too dry, it was also uneven. So some of the slices were chewy. And again, the pizza filling is good (albeit, quite salty), but the preparation was bad. The Danish was fine. I liked it, but my wife didn’t.
The coffee and bagels are delicious.
It was a nice experience. It was super busy , I’m assuming it’s a favorable place for many.
First let me say it was a Sunday morning at a coffee place that is essentially the only one around. We knew and expected it to be busy and that things wouldn’t be quick. No problem. We had a plan. Order coffees and a pastry to hold us over til food was ready.
I am hearing impaired. Deaf on one side and so when there is a lot of background noise I rely on a combination of lip reading and what I hear. The cashier was extremely soft spoken and looking down while talking. I asked her to repeat herself twice and still couldn’t hear her. The third time I explained to her that I am hearing impaired and the music and people talking makes it harder for me to hear. She did not make an effort to raise her voice. My partner stepped in and took over the ordering and he had to ask her to repeat herself as well and his hearing is fine. After all of that she turned and walked away while asking us a question and then turned back, looked at us questioningly, and then said “which one” with impatience.
By the time we got into the brewery area, which is quieter than the cafe, I was feeling flustered and anxious so I let my partner go back up for coffees and food. The pastry was good, though very lemon forward. The coffee has always been excellent.
Then we got our food. Even though my partner went up as soon as we got the text our food was room temp at best. I opened my sandwich to do my usual pass off half the eggs and realized there was no cheese and a line of “sauce” about a quarter inch wide that looked like some one had watercolor painted on the bread. I took a breath and went back up with the sandwich to see what could be done. When I told the person whose attention I got she said “yeah there’s cheese on it and the sauce is on the bottom.” I had presented her with an open, clearly cheese free sandwich and then moved the egg to show her the “sauce”. She took the plate from me and walked away. Not a single word. I stood there waiting for a minute or two. Another customer asked if I had ordered the Sunrise and when I confirmed said yeah they must have switched our sandwiches because I ordered mine without cheese. I waited a couple more minutes and then went back to my seat just flabbergasted. I was on the verge of telling my partner we should just go when they walked out with my sandwich. It clearly had a piece of cheese just tossed on top. Which is fine but why did that take 15 min and why did she not say hold on one quick minute I’ll go have them add the cheese.
The service, food, and overall experience have been essentially the same all 3 times we’ve been. We believe in giving places a second shot. I also believe in addressing valid concerns directly with a business.
Which I attempted to do. I reached out about the cashier not being in any way accommodating. Thankfully my hearing doesn’t prevent me from interacting with the world in anything less than a “typical” fashion. I occasionally have to ask people to speak up or slow down. It’s never been a problem.
I heard nothing back and that lack of response to a genuine customer concern is the primary reason for me finally caving and writing my first negative review.
My husband and I both ordered a chicken salad wrap, he had it with fries, I had it with tater tots. They said it would be about a 20 to 30 minute wait and the food would be ready by 4:30; we understood since it was super busy, they also said that we would get a text when it’s ready. By 4:50, we didn’t get a text so my husband went to check with the counter and the food was ready a few minutes after.
Aside from the wait, the chicken salad wrap was good, the tater tots were slightly soggy, not sure how long it was sitting. I’m planning to check out their coffee next time since we already had coffee from a different place. Also, I think it’s a great idea that it’s connected to a brewery; I didn’t mind the wait as much since I had some beers in the meantime.
