Edit: after viewing the maggots on the food from someone who ate here few days after us, it’s an image that we cannot get out of our heads. The video and image was posted on Facebook. We’ll never be back here and the image and video was traumatizing to watch, I am still unable to want vietnamese salad rolls in general.
Initial review:
This restaurant definitely has that old asian restaurant vibe which is what I always want because the focus is more on food than in aesthetics. A lot of legit good restaurants in south east asia are outdated and this place gave me that vibe when we walked into it.
First, with food, majority of pho or soup places I’ve visited in Canada, you get that sodium after effect where you are so thirsty. We did not get that at all in this restaurant. People say it’s bland, legit pho is supposed to be like that.
The portion of XL is very reasonably priced and good for 2 people.
For a family of 4, just getting what we want and 1 beer, our total bill was under $50 with 20% tip included. That’s how generous this restaurant is. I would highly recommend their special salad roll and for the soups to be XL.

Went to Thap Ba Restaurant last night, 10/10. I’ve been going there for years, and honestly, it’s one of the few restaurants that’s consistently great with its food, service, and fair prices.
It was sad to see how one social media post can potentially destroy a small, local business. Mistakes happen, I’ve been to other restaurants where I’ve found salad bugs, hair, etc. If that same post were about a big corporate chain, it wouldn’t have had nearly the same impact, and that really showed last night.
I hope people give them a second chance and continue to support locally run businesses. We already have so many of the same restaurants, it’s nice to have variety in Red Deer.
In a world with so much anger and sadness, it would be nice to see a little more kindness and forgiveness too.

We heard this place had really good salad rolls and wow! They were delicious! We got beef, pork and shrimp. The portions are very generous. They were fresh and tasted delicious! I love how they put a crispy spring roll in the middle. Beef and pork was our fave.

I see other reviews where people complain about service, I dont really see that at all. The staff has always been friendly when i’ve interacted with them.
I think the people that are coming here are expecting the more over the top meet and greet style that they’re used to here in Canada.
And as a life long canadian, I actually dont like that, I prefer they give me my food and dont pretend like they’re so interested in my weeks plans when the bill comes around for a tip.
The wait can sometimes be a little long to get seated and get food. But sometimes it’s extremely busy and they seem to be a family business. So I understand that going in and im never upset when I leave, the food is great! The staff are great!

The food was awesome.
I had Hot Vietnamese Coffee and my Wife had Iced Coffee.
We shared The salad rolls (which are to die for).
I had #13 & my wife had the vermicelli bowl with Chicken and Spring rolls.
Overall the service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere is nice and the space is open, the food came out quick and the portion sizes were totally worth it. I would highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t yet.

Came in today order for dine in Pho and take out rice dish , the Pho soup was bland but it was easy fix with hoisin / siracha sauce. The most disappointing part was my take out – they gave us half cook rice – it was still so hard … obviously uncooked – this place really gone down hill – I even paid for my friends table – spent like $200 on this restaurant today and would never go back.

You get incredible value here. Massive rolls and incredible sandwiches, everything looked great and tasted even better. Great spot for lunch, will definitely be coming here often for banh mi’s. If you like spice, get the chicken satay submarine! It’s more affordable than Subway and has 100x the flavour.

Went to check out this location as I’m new (ish) to red deer.
I ordered spring rolls, salad rolls and a extra large pho,,
Saled and spring rolls where on par with what I have had all over..
The extra large pho was not that grate not a lot of noodles and meat basically it was a medium swimming in a lake of broth with the 3 things I ordered my bill came to 30$ which is not that bad…

Food was delicious and the service was quick. We stopped quickly on our way back to Edmonton and it was way better then stopping at a usual spot on gasoline alley.
