The first unpleasant experience was when I called to make a reservation and they were very rude on the phone.
Once we got there and were seated the highchair the brought us was two stacked up on top of each other which is super unsafe. Get some high chairs that actually fit your tables please.
We got our salad and soup and one of the salads had a long black hair on top.
Then they forgot our sake it didn’t end up coming until mid dinner and was the first thing we ordered.
The food was cold even though we were only one of three tables there!!
The scallops were all cooked with the foot on them still and the shrimp were not deveined at all. They also messed up my order and gave me and my daughter the wrong rice.
The waitress also only brought us two chop sticks (5people) and didn’t refill our drinks until we almost finished our dinner. She also took 30 min just to get our check.
Honestly was so disappointed, for such an expensive place to receive such bad service and food.
Food was great as always, and I had no issues at all picking up my order — everything was ready on time and accurate. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and the quality of the food keeps me coming back.
The only downside is that there’s consistently been an issue with customer service from one specific waiter named Chris that i acknowledged today for the first time . I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way, but the tone of voice can come off unwelcoming at times. A warmer approach would really help make customers feel more comfortable and appreciated.
Other than that, everything else has been solid. I hope this feedback is taken constructively because the restaurant itself is great.
The main reasoning for my review is for a couple reasons.
1: the meals we got were listed as 24.95, with the addition of fried rice (2.50) makes that 27.45, yet was priced at 29.90, as if I were double charged for the fried rice…
Reason 2: the forced gratuity of 20%.. After reading through reviews, because I don’t recall seeing something about it in the menu, and there was nothing posted about it at the front door, I’ve gathered that there’s a forced gratuity on parties of 5+.. which okay, under normal circumstances I can understand.. but take the environment into account, we are Hibachi, meaning people sit around the flat top, now it could be your group, It could be sets of total strangers all at the same space. If there were 3 random couples placed at 1 hibachi grill, you’re telling me there would be a forced 20% gratuity on all of them because they happened to sit together, or were seated in the same space? That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a restaurant of this theme do something like that, and I dunno.. just sits weird with me.
If it was all on one ticket, Okay.. I can understand it, but the fact we’re talking about 3 separate tickets of 1-2 meals each, all being charged this 20%..
So just a word of advice, if you plan on eating there as a group (which I really don’t.. honestly just try somewhere else).. don’t tell them you’re actually a group apparently.. because you’re penalized if you are, or maybe you’re penalized anyway? I honestly can’t tell.
And I won’t trust it anyway since they’re padding the receipts with imaginary charges like that additional 2.45 per meal anyway.
2 meals at a total of about 85, is 42.50 per meal.
First let me start off by saying our first waiter was very strange. He creeped out my wife and myself. I usually look past stuff like this but I couldn’t shake it. Without saying anything they switched waiters on us. We got our order and while the sauce was good it definitely overpowers the meat. Making it seem more like gravy than a light sauce. Our steamed rice was dry throughout the whole scoop. On top I can understand but in the middle or under idk why it was like that.
The second waiter didn’t really seem to pay much attention to us other than when he was close by. When I tried to get his attention for the check he just walked by without gesturing anything at all. With that being said I didn’t like the service or the food. I have worked in restaurants before and know how customers are supposed to be treated. I paid my bill without leaving a tip on there as I was going to leave one in cash.
Until I couldn’t find him again…of course. I left without tipping simply for the fact that the service and food were bad so I went against it.
My wife and I enjoyed a walk with our toddler around the area to enjoy the view. When we returned to our car the waiter ran out to our car and handed us the restaurants copy of the receipt. The one where I decide on a tip and sign for the transaction. He said that the paper was mine and good luck to us.
My wife felt an overwhelming feeling of being insulted and I didn’t like that he came out to our vehicle like that and said that to my wife and not me. We both feel insulted. This is not professional at all and when I called to talk to the manager all he said was that he will talk to the waiter. When I asked for the owner/operators number he refused to give it to me over the phone but said I could get it if I came back to the restaurant in person. Long story short on that one he didn’t seem to care that his staff is insulting customers. Tipping is a choice and not a right. I didn’t tip for poor food and poor service. They didn’t like that and decided to insult me and my family. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL. I hope others who have had a problem with them had a much better experience. As for myself. I did not and in no way shape or form to I encourage people to eat there. Go to Banzai on Walnut and Elliot Knox. Much better food and pricing.
