Word of Mouth S’pore
This is a late night joint in the heart of the city… What attracted me to patonise them was the dining furniture .. some white & blue French wicker chars with matching table top colours, relative cleanliness & just good vibes basically. . The place is frequented mainly by students from campuses nearby and tourists also from the many nearby hotels & budget accommodations .

It’s a street side cafe & if you wanna good spot to soak in the environment and people watch, grab a seat at the alfresco area. I always go for the latter but smokers always spoil it for me so I headed indoors.

As I was dining solo, I opted for a one dish meal of Hor Fun ( a Cantonese term meaning ‘wet flour’)..These are flat wide noodles usually served a thick savoury gravy & eggs. I went for the one with seafood. In Singapore, the local style is its served on a flat plate, but here it was served in a bowl ( as they do in Thailand ) . It came piping hot, just the way I like it.

You need to pair this with the dipping chilli padi ( Bird’s Eye Chilli ) a tiny but intensely spicy pepper common in most Asian cuisines.

On the whole, this was Boleh Tahan.

Tasty and Affordable

Ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and Prawn Pad Thai. The pineapple rice was hearty with a good amount of shrimp and pineapple — a nice, well-balanced flavor. The Pad Thai was slightly on the sweet side for my taste, but it improved a lot with a squeeze of lime.

All in all, a solid 4 stars — great vibe, outdoor seating, and excellent prices. Perfect for a casual Thai meal in a relaxed setting. ✨

Lots of other better options nearby. Don’t waste your time and money here.

Additional notes
1) Walked in, saw a lady ordering at the counter, so I followed behind. The female service staff seemed annoyed and impatient taking my order. She was literally leaning against the counter, not facing me and lacked eye contact or smile.
2) My order was the new item – Pork Fried Rice. It was served to me on a tiny round plate, like the size of those side plates where breads are served alongside the main dish in western cuisine restaurants. I thought they could be more generous with the portion.
3) I found the rice drenched in too much oil. The meat was a little minced pork scattered on top of the rice. Although there was some taste in the meat, it wasn’t enough to save the dish.
4) The long seats desperately need to be reupholstered or replaced with new covers.

I found it to be pretty good. Portions were a little small but tasted good. There are cheaper Thai options nearby (one block) but overall it was ok

Contact- group lunch with colleagues. We tried beef soup with noodles, phad Thai, fried pork rice, tom yum noodles. General consensus was that its quite good value and quality. Quite authentic and spice levels were ok. Its nothing fancy. Quite warm outside but quiet inside. We would be back again for quick bites, not beer though, $15 pint for Thai beer is too steep for me.

Food tastes not bad at first but gets a bit bland towards the middle. I ordered pork for the meat but it came as a mixture of chicken and pork(?) The mango sticky rice was kind of dissapointing. Mango was not sweet and the rice was hard to cut into smaller pieces.

Tasty, authentic Thai food at affordable prices with late-night dining. Been eating here for past 8 years! The setting is very casual, al fresco style — so skip if you’re after a posh ambiance.

This is thoroughbred Thai through and through. We feasted through what I thought was food cooked with heart and soul. Well done to the team at Aroy-Dee for this experience. Been years since I visited. And the best testament we could give to you is returning for a next time.

Till then, keep up the great work!
