delicious food and friendly service! the portions are huge and the prices are reasonable especially for the quality of what you get. i’ll dream of the collared greens, and the chicken was falling off the bone and seasoned to perfection. i like a baked
mac and cheese and this one is delicious, but if you prefer a saucier one i’d pick a different side. they were able to confirm the entire meu was nut free for me, and a second drink/refill came out with my order (i don’r know if this was a mistake or on purpose, but delicious tea either way!) get the gravy!

I was looking for a place to grab dinner and found this restaurant on Google Maps with great photos and reviews. People mentioned tasty food, large portions, and good prices, but that wasn’t my experience at all. The portions were small, the chicken wasn’t very good, and the black-eyed peas and yellow rice were bland. Definitely not worth paying over $20 for such a disappointing meal.

The hotel shuttle driver recommended that we try The Cornbread Soul Food restaurant. He was absolutely correct in his suggestion.
Dropped in about 7p on Friday night, the place was fairly busy. The staff was amazing, willing to walk 1st timers through their menu choices.
You better bring your best appetite cause you can’t eat it all, especially if you select the large meals.
The collards are perfect and you’ll drink the “pot liquor “
(juice), the cabbage was slightly crunchy exactly as I like them and the juice was consumed as well. The yams were sweeten just enough to make your mouth water as they enter your mouth. Of course the Cornbread was the perfect compliment to the meal.
The turkey leg meal was overwhelming, much more than I could eat without taking a nap in the restaurant after eating. Had to get the doggie bag to finish later. The catfish was cooked with a highly seasoned batter that took away from enjoying the full flavor of the fish.
There were many other items I wanted to try but knew I was allowing my eyes to be larger than my stomach.
I appreciate this shuttle drivers recommendation and I too want to suggest this restaurant as a must try!

Stopped by on a whim and ended up having such a satisfying meal. The catfish was cooked perfectly, the yams were full of flavor, and the mac and cheese was rich and comforting. Even dessert did not disappoint, the apple cobbler was warm and delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The dining space felt welcoming, clean, and comfortable. This place is absolutely worth another visit.

When Cornbread first opened, I really liked the food. Over time, though, the quality has fallen off badly. Every time I go, I end up saying, I’m not going back. The prices have increased, but the food and service have gone way down. Something is always missing from my order, and I have to go back and deal with the ill mannered staff. This was my first time returning in about six months, and I honestly don’t know why I gave it another chance. The cabbage had decent flavor, but it was so mushy like it had been cooking way too long. And the fish?? Oh my goodness. ‍♀️ I ordered the two-piece whiting and ended up eating unseasoned fish jerky. Dry, tough, and completely flavorless. Not even salt. Don’t believe me? See photos attached.
I am beyond disappointed. This was the last time for me. I won’t be giving them my money again.

Straight up foodies and flavor enthusiasts! Prepare your taste buds for a soulful journey through the heart of New Jersey, where hospitality meets mouthwatering cuisine. My recent visit to Newark’s gem of a restaurant left me utterly speechless and completely satisfied. As I placed my order with the courteous cashier, I could sense the passion and dedication that went into every dish. And oh, the food! Each bite was a symphony of flavors, a tribute to the rich traditions of soulful cooking. From the tender fried chicken to the decadent macaroni and, every morsel was a delightful revelation. But the true star of the show was the impeccable service. The gentleman who served my meal did so with an air of grace and genuine care, ensuring that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. I urge you, dear reader, to embark on your own culinary adventure and discover the magic that awaits you in Newark’s best-kept secret. You won’t be disappointed. So, why wait? Treat yourself to an unforgettable dining experience and indulge in the phenomenal offerings of this soul food haven. Trust me, it’s a journey worth taking. Enjoy!

Scored à free night from Marriott Bonvoy, staying at the Courtyard Newark Downtown (I broke up with a woman after we saw Wu Tang & Nas at Prudential, but y’all don’t need to know about that.)
Annnyywaayz doe …. My main motivation from taking the train from Manhattan to NJ was to return to Cornbread Farm to Soul, and it did not disappoint! Had honey chicken & black eyed peas and macaroni and cheese and sweet teas! (Just one sweet tea, but I had to keep the rhyme scheme).
Absolutely delicious!!
Ten-course menus in Manhattan are nice to flex with, but nothing will satisfy me like soul food done right.
I cleaned my plate and filled my heart. Glad to be back.
And the service by Bernice Kim was as professional, warm and faith-restoring as the food and drink.
Thank you Cornbread and Bernice, for making my Friday night and return to Newark memorable
And also making me forget what’s-her-name.
Much love to y’all.

P.S. yes, I know there is a Cornbread in Brooklyn, but THIS location is where it’s at. Felt like I was back in the ATL ❤️

Food was delicious and Jasmine was a great host. She provided great service. Spent $47 for both plates and 2 drinks but the portions were bigger than expected.

Review update/

As you can see by my originally review I was hyped. I got home and saw that zi didn’t get the BBQ sauce I requested many times. I paid $40 and was absolutely SHOCKED at the small portion size. As for flavor I like the Mac and cheese bur everything else had too much salt.

The ladies there are amazing but I wouldn’t buy again.

I posted pics of the food at the restaurant and then what $40 got me when I finally opened up my bag at home.

Ok hold up ✋✋✋✋

First time calling and first time coming here and LET ME SAY THIS

The service from Nana, Bernice, Shakira was top notch……

I mean I couldn’t stop talking about. They made it clear you arrive at 9:59 and they close at 10pm and they will take care of you.

I almost don’t want to rate them so high so it don’t be getting packed in here Lol

But highly recommend. Quality service and even at night food looks fresh and the smell will have you ordering way more than you were planning to.
