The rice and sauce had good flavor overall, but it was a little bland for me so I took it home and added chicken bouillon and maggi to the rice and red sauce cus I just felt it needed a little extra seasoning. But Everybody has their preferences on saltiness that’s just mine. the flavor was still good on its own.
The beef suya was good it had a good flavor. It was tender even when it got cold. The spices on top were good. And the onions and tomatoes on top worked well together with everything else. I think the portion size for the beef suya could’ve been a little bigger for $15 for that lil bowl. But hey.
I kinda wanted to sit down and eat it but the vibes was not giving sit down and eat it.
Also, the menu they have on the wall must be outdated because the prices are not accurate.
Every price on the menu they had mounted on the walls were about $3 cheaper than what you’re actually charged.
Beef suya on the menu was $12, I was charged $15.
The jollof rice was $7 on the menu, I was charged $10.
So basically,
Everything was OKAY …. besides being charged more than the advertised price….The small beef suya portion And the food needing a lil seasoning.
I would try it again.
This was about the third time I have been at this establishment. The first time was perfect. They had an african lady in the kitchen and the food tasted like back home. Now for the more recent times I have been there, there was a Hispanic person in the kitchen. This might explain why the food i ordered which was egusi and fufu was lacking that something special taste. It did not taste like how it did the first time at all. This time, the egusi was bland and too much palm oil. Didn’t even really smell like egusi. Non africans cooking african food is a big no for me personally.
Furthermore, this last time I went was because previously there was what felt like sand in my food. I had communicated with the owner and she had given me store credit to go resolve the issue. I went and was eating the food and still crunching on what felt like sand. The cashier handling the food had gloves in front of him but i guess they were just for decoration. He was touching everything but the gloves. He was touching money, his phone, the cash register, and the food with just his bare hands and at no point washing his hands or using gloves. This was probably why there is sand in my food.. At this point, I’m just tired of complaining so I’ll just write the review. Hopefully they can hear the costumers and fix the issues.
Please, at least, put a black african person in the kitchen. There is a difference and we can taste it. I won’t even mind the sand if the food tasted how it should.
Unfortunately, as much as I like to support my fellow africans, this might be my last time at this establishment. I’ll be going to Veronica’s from now on cause even if I have to wait a whole hour, I know it will taste right!
I tried to call the restaurant, but they simply hung up the phone. I told them I didn’t want to write a bad review but here it is I’m disappointed….
Definitely not worth it
Anyway. The rest of the Food ordered was just salty. No actual flavour depth. Tasted like it was just cooked in a hurry
Tried the fried rice. Bland
Meat pie. Lots of meat. But salty
Stew. Just salty
Jollof. Fine. Just nothing great about it.
Goat Meat. Tender. and tasty
Portion sizes were also small considering what was being charged.
Honestly i was really craving naija food as im new to LA. And It was such a disappointment to wait so long for badly seasoned food and mistakes with no solution.
Will not be ordering here again.
Puff puff: It’s exactly as the menu describes, a fried dough ball. A bit dense so probably wouldn’t get this again.
Tofu suya: Loved this! Deep fried tofu topped with a savory spice mix, so simple and delicious. Texture was perfect, especially when it’s still hot. The standout of the meal.
Jollof rice: Classic side, compliments any other dish perfectly
Amala, gbegiri, and ewedu: First time trying this, it was so flavorful, super yummy. Tomato-based but I’ve never had another stew like it. Slightly gelatinous from the jute leaves. We got the spicy and it was on the spicier side but not too bad. If you’re sensitive to spice stick with regular. Perfect with the amala.
Can’t wait to come back and try more!
