Espanola, in my opinion, is one of the last remaining strongholds of authentic Northern New Mexican cuisine, and JoAnn’s Ranch O Casados Restaurant exemplifies this.
Despite its unexpected decor—Tiffany-style lighting and wood paneling reminiscent of an early 1980s beer hall or steakhouse—the food is exceptional. The beans were fresh and perfectly cooked along with the posole which was also perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the carne adovada, paired with crisp lettuce and tomato, represents true Northern New Mexican flavors, reflecting the cooks’ evident pride. While the coffee was slightly bitter for my liking, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal overall.
The service was attentive and great. However, JoAnn’s adds a surcharge to card transactions, which was surprising. Nevertheless, the food prices are reasonable, which offset the additional surcharge charge.

Came in a couple times while in the area. The service is friendly and quick and the menu has many options with breakfast served all day.
The breakfast burritos are big and filling, the green & red sauce (Christmas is what New Mexicans call it) is good, the green being hotter of the two. The bacon is nice and thick. The omelette is good with the green sauce. The biscuits & gravy is okay wish it was sausage gravy but I crumbled my sausage. Kids plates plentiful and the cost is not high. Definitely recommend

This is nice little place with charm in the middle of town. It feels very local and the people are pretty friendly. The nachos were tasty but the rest of the food, while not bad at all, was a little underwhelming for New Mexican standards. I might go back to try other dishes before I make up my mind though. I recommend.

We’re on vacation from England so chose to eat here from the variety of the menu. We were seated immediately at a table in a spacious open plan room and soon were ordering from the menu with the help of our waitress who kept us supplied with plenty of coffee. Our breakfast order of omelette with hash browns and sopaipillas and burrito with green chilli came quickly which due to their quality and portion size took a while to eat. It was great to eat here our waitress was engaging and willing we’d love to eat here again when we’re next in New Mexico.

It was lunchtime and we were hungry. Went in and the hostess just replied sit wherever. Sat and waited 5 minutes and she comes with menus and just toss on table with silverware. We say thank you and she don’t say anything just walks away. So we just got up and left!! Never again will we go there, very unfriendly and not welcoming. So my rating for this establishment is 1 ⭐

Breakfast special was a lot of food for a good price. Staff was friendly. Outdoor area was nice with some mountains and water fountain with decore was a great addition. We’ll go back. Favorite breakfast place in Espanola this far.

Been stopping here for last couple of years when we’re in Espanola and it is always a hit. I tried the relleno plate this last time and WOW, great rellenos with beef and wonderful green chile toppings. It was chile season but many times restaurants will still use machine prepared frozen stock. These were made fresh! Nice. Very nice front and kitchen staff. A few extra skins on the green chile but didn’t keep me from enjoying it. Their prices are very reasonable in part by not adding a credit card fee unless you actually use one. I appreciate that. Very fair.

Some of the best New Mexican food in the state. One of the best red chili sauce. The original owner has sold the busines and has passed on. The same great food and service. Awesome New Mexican food.
