We have lived in Albany, Ga 8 years and this is the first time we ate here. The reason why is because we were told it was a bar and customers could smoke. We don’t smoke or drink, so this is the reason we never stopped in. Well, We were riding by, and my wife said, Pull into the parking lot and let her walk in and check it out. I’m glad we did because there’s 2 entry doors, one for smokers and other non-smokers… We split a fried seafood platter that was very reasonably priced. It had a good portion of seafood. It was just like the seafood we got at the beach. The only reason for 4 stars is that the non-smokers’ side is super small, and there’s 2 glass doors that go into the smokers’ room. The servers go in out all the time. Therefore, you will get a little cigarette smell if you sit by the doors…
We will definitely eat here more often and try and sit as far as possible from the doors.

Service was fast and friendly. We had fried shrimp, they were tasty and served hot. The sweet potato fries were good. Didn’t really like the hush puppies, they were kind of dry and not very flavorful.

Drove 25 min away ordered a chop steak and a dozen of oysers.
Chop steak was crisp, dry ,and no gravy just a chunk of meat. Called to complain lady states its 2$ more for gravy but did not articulate that when ordering. Very rude, not professional, no type of customer service also charge a gratuity fee for a take out order first time and last time!

Atmosphere very relaxing, have a nice bar and a separate non smoking section. Greeted at entering the business. Service is most professional and friendly. My steak is cooked to my choice, absolutely tasty! Tables and floor are clean.

I ate dinner here with my family as we were looking for somewhere to eat on/nearby the boardwalk. At the time it was around 8pm and we were looking for somewhere to eat before watching the fireworks at Harborview. This was a problem because most restaurants closed at 9pm and their wait times were over an hour to accommodate my family. That’s when I stumbled upon AJ’s. When I got there, one of the staff also mentioned that “you can see the fireworks.” (Disclaimer about the fireworks, I thought it was going to be a big thing but it turned out to be a 5 minute tiny fireworks display probably meant to only attract people to the boardwalk on slow days; mon/thur.)
My family sat upstairs on the bar floor for this reason, and I thought the decorations, live music, and harbor view were something way too good to complain about. On the other hand, something that did disappoint me was the food. No one told me before my family was seated that “upstairs and downstairs had different menus.” I wished we could’ve been informed about this before we sat down, but it didn’t bother me too much since we wanted to sit upstairs anyway. I decided to order the gumbo bowl and Classic Fish Sandwich. (Blackened “fish”. Menu doesn’t really say what kind of fish? ♂️). I thought the seafood gumbo was okay, but the fish sandwich disappointed me just a little. The “fish” was seasoned fine and cooked well, but the tartar sauce described in the menu felt nonexistent. Overall, AJ’s is a nice place for a bite later in the evening, but if I was in a situation where there were more restaurants open, I’d pick another restaurant with better seafood options.

The slaw was spoiled. One of my blackened shrimp was soft soggy and mushy. Obviously spoiled and no excuse for spoiled and rotten food. Will not eat here again!!

It’s been a minute since I’ve gone to AJ’s. You’re not going to assure you it’s probably my last. The 25 shrimp special that you get on Mondays for $19.99 came up to $25.41, since when did tax become so high? That was my first issue. I am supposed to get 25 shrimp and only got 19. That was my second issue. And the shrimp look like they came out of a Gordon’s fisherman Frozen box from the grocery store. That was my third issue so overall, I’m not satisfied. Oh, and did I mentioned the shrimp we’re not good. Had I known it was going to be like that, I could have saved myself a lot of money and pick myself up a box of Gordon shrimp it probably would have been happier

My favorite spot to get seafood in the 229 area. They’re reasonable, good and they have great customer service. Their cheese grits are made with A Grandmother’s Love !!! Their homemade tartar sauce is everything. The hushpuppies are good too!!! I go home every weekend and eat here. You don’t need the butter with the crab legs, because they are seasoned to perfection. The only problem that you might have is that it’s a small restaurant.
