Seaside Houston – Gulf coast seafood with a rooftop patio
Reviews
I ordered their lamp chops; which was 4 lollipops and two sides for $35. I had a Moscow Mule while I waited for my food bringing my order total to $61.55. Gratuity was automatically included; so be advised of that.
There are several ways to have them prepared. I had mine jerked with their mac and cheese and candied yams as my sides. The candies yams were candied yams. Far from tart or butter but not overly sweet either. The mac and cheese had something unique going on. There was a smokiness; almost jerk flavor to it. I enjoyed it with the jerk lamp chops but not something I would come and order standalone.
Now being from out of town; be advised that locating the entrance to this place was odd. The rear and the front both look like plausible entrances. Once I found the entrance; it was packed with a bunch of black people just congregating and socializing. Ironically; this was the “security”. What added to the irony is that when I asked “is this the entrance” no one responded. Just a relatively young light skinned black male dressed in all black with dreadlocks waving/signaling me to come towards him and then to turn around (again; no words spoken). Once he was done patting me down; I stood there like a deer in headlights. So I asked “where do you go”; this same “security guard” finally spoke saying; “you can go to the back”. Now envision where I was standing was dark, poorly lit, no people and to the back was only stairs to an empty rooftop and what appeared to be an empty bar space and to my right was another door to a different side that was lit (which happened to be where the actual service was). So without much instruction I just walked back and went into the door on the right where the only signs of life were. Walking in I was greeted by no one. Just a DJ booth with the DJ in there and later to find out two “waitresses” entertaining him. So I asked the DJ; “do you just seat yourself” and one of the young ladies responded “yeah”.
As I sat there waiting on my order; the DJ complained to the “security guard” I encountered earlier about finding a new spot for Thursday as he’s been there a year and the crowd has drastically fallen off.
So what I realized is why the gratuity, even for a party of one, is automatically included. The customer service sucks. Left up to me personally; I would t have tipped anything on a takeout order and poor service. The food is good. But not automatic gratuity good and not revisit or recommend good.
Be advised: They rent out hookahs. The place smelled more like weed than anything.
I am beyond disappointed with my experience at Seaside Lounge this past Saturday for my spouse’s 40th birthday celebration.
Two weeks prior, I booked two floor-level sections. I was clearly told the sections were $100 each with a one-bottle minimum per section, and bottles were $150 each. At no point was I told pricing would change based on arrival time. No mention of rooftop placement. No mention of a two-bottle minimum.
When we arrived, we were moved to the rooftop and suddenly told it required a two-bottle minimum. After speaking with the manager, he agreed to honor the one-bottle minimum per section — but then informed us that because we did not arrive before 11:30 PM (a rule that was NEVER disclosed), the bottles would now be $250 each instead of $150.
So let’s do the math:
$250 + $250 = $500.
We were charged $641 for two bottles.
Even with tax and gratuity, that number deserves a clear breakdown. Instead, we were met with attitude and pressure — including being told we may need to give up one of our sections after already paying.
To make matters worse, we were told to merge our 20+ guests into one section because we were “just sitting.” We paid for TWO sections. Being asked to consolidate during a milestone birthday celebration — in front of our guests — was embarrassing and unprofessional.
It felt like:
• A complete bait and switch
• Undisclosed policies
• Inflated pricing
• Poor communication
• Zero accountability
The only bright spot of the night was our waitress — she was amazing. Attentive, professional, and the only person who made us feel valued as guests. She deserves recognition because she truly did her job well despite the chaos around her.
Unfortunately, strong service from one employee does not make up for poor management and misleading pricing practices.
This was supposed to be a special celebration. Instead, it turned into unnecessary stress and frustration. I would not recommend this venue for milestone events.
Edit: ALSO, one of my guest paid $50 for the photos from the photographer and never received the text link as promised. Never again!
