The jerk chicken is fine, but had some hairs and feathers and some weird stringy or fatty looking things so clearly not properly cleaned..
The fried chicken was hard and dry like it’s been sitting there for days.
The rice and peas is also fine. But not as good as other jerk spots.
The oxtail gravy helped them both, a lot.
The food here is actually pretty bad considering the price. And the serving size is very sad. For a large, they don’t even use the square containers it’s just another rectangle that’s maybe an inch or two bigger. And they barely put any rice. I moved the chicken out of the way so you could see that the amount of rice is very shallow.
We came for the pasta salad. So many reviews saying it was amazing. It was okay. I wouldn’t get it again. Especially for the price. $10 gets you a little cup that is equivalent to about the size of a fist. Baker’s jerk has set the bar too high for pasta salad and this is nowhere near that one.
Very low-grade products but the prices are like you’re getting the best stuff in town. One of the biggest disappointments of the year so far
Very uplifting vibe from the majority of the servers & often have some gospel music playing in the back/occasionally heard the staff singing kitchen while preparing the food which brings a great atmosphere. I normally get the curry goat wrap & usually eat it way too fast due to my over excitement of the tasty food/pepper sauce & get a cramp (I find at the end of the day it’s not as good & overloaded with potatoes, needs to be consistent at any given time).Meat could be seasoned better & once I was served a wrap that barely had any whole pieces & was mostly shredded meat which was disappointing..oxtail is amazing & everything has always been fresh when I have been there. Prices slightly went up about a month or longer ago which was disappointing considering how busy they usually are but they do offer some daily specials, would be nice if they change up the specials. I’ve been there for breakfast too & had a filling salt fish meal with all the fixings, green banana, yam, etc. Great meal to start the day with. I wish this place & many others offered a recycling option, especially with so many having high traffic on a daily basis. I take my empty containers, cutlery & drinks home so they can be recycled. Our Earth ( & time here) is so precious & we need to do more to protect the quality of it for future generations.
The Jerk Chicken? A true warrior of flavor. Juicy, smoky, and perfectly spiced—enough heat to awaken your senses, but not so much that you’d call for a medic droid.
Served atop a bed of rice and beans, with a small side of creamy macaroni salad for balance. Every bite brought harmony, like a well-tuned lightsaber hum.
Service was a 10/10.
A Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff, who showed us to our table with a smile. The restaurant’s decor was vibrant and colorful, with a tropical island theme that immediately put us in a festive mood. The atmosphere was lively, with a mix of reggae and Caribbean music playing in the background, which added to the overall ambiance.
A Vegetarian’s Paradise
As a vegetarian, I was impressed by the variety of options available on the menu. The restaurant offers a range of vegetarian dishes, including vegan options, which are clearly marked on the menu. I opted for the Vegetable Curry, which was made with a variety of fresh vegetables, including bell peppers, onions, and potatoes, in a rich and flavorful curry sauce. The dish was served with a side of steamed rice and roti, which were both cooked to perfection.
Flavors and Presentation
The Vegetable Curry was a true delight, with a perfect balance of spices and flavors that complemented the freshness of the vegetables. The presentation was also impressive, with a sprinkle of fresh cilantro and a side of papadum that added a nice crunch to the dish.
Meat-Eater’s Delight
I was accompanied by a meat-eater, who opted for the Jerk Chicken dish. They loved their food, and the portion was generous, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The jerk seasoning was flavorful and aromatic, and the dish was served with a side of steamed vegetables and rice.
Service and Value
The service at the Tropical Island Caribbean Restaurant was exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff who were happy to answer our questions and make recommendations. The value for money was also excellent, with generous portions and reasonable prices.
