We order takeout namely the small Sashimi+Sushi+Roll tray, the Takoyaki and the Legend Spider roll (in the past we usually went with the Lobster King and the Sashimi+Sushi tray but we sent with something else). In total we spent around $125 which was slightly higher than we used to spend but I wanted an extra appetizer to try.
The sashimi, Sushi and rolls were good as always; the fish is always the best quality and fresh taste that you should always expect.
The Takoyaki was good, though not as hot nor having that crispness from the batter considering we did order takeout and me and mom had to wait about 25 min till my dad came back but if you were to eat it in the restaurant it would definitely be so much better.
Lastly, the Legend Spider roll was good but had some issues. Namely since the main attraction being the fried soft shell crab was overshadowed in the roll due to the fried unagi overpowering it’s taste. My mom did point out that the crab didn’t have a fresh sense in taste, but I did tell her that unless you live directly next to the sea in which you have the crabs within reach, most soft shell crabs are frozen since it would be difficult for most restaurants to proccur live crabs. I still think the lobster roll is more superior but this isn’t bad as it’s unique in its own way.
Highly recommend this place, whenever you are craving just order from this place or even if you can sit down in the restaurant as it has such a a nice scenery.
Came to this sushi place while visiting Toronto. It was highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. We came on an early Friday afternoon and was able to get seated near the window.
The sushi selection was great from regular sushi, sashimi all the way to specialized rolls. The MiKi lobster roll was something special! The sheer size of the roll made it almost impossible to eat to with only one bite. But it was definitely delicious. The “tuna holic” was something we tried as well. It was spicy tuna roll topped with salmon tataki, super delicious also.
This place also does takeouts and from the look of it that takeouts are their main business.
The only thing I would caution is the lack of parking. There were only 3-4 parking lot in front of the restaurant so if you come during busy time, expect to drive around to find alternative parking.
We ordered some sushi to go for a big group, and everything was fresh and delicious . (It was so good that some of us ordered from their hot menu again the following day!)
They were very generous in the portions of fish in the rolls (look at the tuna!).
They even kindly offered us some gyoza and rice porridges on the house with our sushi order!
We’ll definitely go back next time we’re in Toronto! 🙂
MiKi Sushi, located in the heart of Unionville, offers a variety of Japanese and Korean dishes in a casual dining setting. During a recent visit, we sampled the chicken bibimbap, chicken katsu donburi, and tempura udon.
The service was prompt and courteous; staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Food arrived quickly, and portion sizes were generous, which is always appreciated. The tempura udon was satisfactory, featuring lightly battered tempura and noodles served in a warm, comforting broth. However, the overall execution of the rice-based dishes fell short of expectations.
Both the chicken bibimbap and the katsu donburi contained an excessive amount of rice, which overpowered the balance of the dish. Moreover, the rice itself lacked flavor. While it is unclear whether the seasoning was intended to reflect a Japanese or Korean style, there was a noticeable absence of the usual soy sauce or sesame oil notes that typically lend depth and character to these dishes. This resulted in an underwhelming and somewhat monotonous taste experience.
The dining area was moderately clean, though not meticulously maintained. One particular drawback was the front door of the restaurant. Each time a customer exited, the door would slam shut with a loud, jarring noise—something that repeatedly disrupted the dining experience and detracted from the otherwise calm ambiance.
Pricing was reasonable and consistent with portion sizes, offering fair value for the meal. While MiKi Sushi has a number of positive qualities, including friendly service and efficiency, there is room for improvement in both the flavor development of its dishes and the attention to environmental comfort.
