the cheapest and most convenient place to eat on campus located right on the hill – you can get a drink and a pimento cheese (or other) sandwich for 5.46, or a hot meal for only about 10. it’s also fast, reliable, and good! bonus, it’s been here since my parents went to utk, so it’s cool to hear their stories about Ray’s place from the 90s and then visit often myself!

I just discovered this place during my last year, and I come here every MWF. The food is sooo cheap and super good! Seriously the best danishes I have ever had. If you’re looking for a place to get a hot meal, this is it.

Food is just very overpriced for college kids; you do not get the bang for your buck at all, and the food is frozen and extremely below average.

Such a sweet old guy! Place is very small but the food is good so, it’s always packed!

Ray’s Place is the best place to get authentic, modern Southern cooking. It’s great comfort food after an advising appointment that accomplished nothing, or a math class with a professor who can’t teach. 🙂

If you’re hungry and at any one of the engineering buildings, this place hits the spot. There’s nothing particularly remarkable about the food. It’s mostly cafeteria style grub, and I’m pretty sure a lot of it is premade before it’s served. As a result, you don’t really get the home cooked vibe you’d think you’d get from a place called “Ray’s Place.” But Ray is a really nice guy, and this is the only spot to get food nearby without having to walk all the way to the student union. Given the scarcity, it’s does the job.

It’s unquestionably the best food on campus, and incredibly delightful service, not to mention the great conversations with Ray if you desire. Favorite place to go hang out between classes!

Ray’s Place is an institution on campus. Ray is just the nicest man, and the food is a good lunch option at a reasonable price. Just be sure to avoid the lunch rush right after noon.

Pretty good little hidden place on campus. No giant portions or extraordinary prices, but it has a good atmosphere and friendly staff. The food has been very tasty every time I’ve visited, with home-cooked taste.

Great food at a reasonable price and family-owned. Enjoy it while it’s here, the university is itching to displace them so that their contract with Aramark doesn’t have any competition.
