On 3/5 we made our 2nd trip here just to eat. We literally drove an hour just to eat here again. And will do it again. Tried completely different food this time and we were still blown away. Everything is wonderful. Very flavorful and tasty. Different server this time and he was absolutely amazing as well. Hands down would recommend this place to anyone passing through the area or looking for a quick day trip. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Would have given more than 5 stars if I could. Our server Jordan was 10/10, the absolute best. He was super friendly, very knowledgeable. The food was over the top. We’ve eaten at Michelin star restaurants in New York and we would rather eat here than most of those restaurants.

A little background…my wife and I moved to the Asheville, NC area in 2020 when I accepted a position with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our youngest son joined us in 2024. We have a weekly “Family Day” which usually occurs on Tue or Wed due to our son’s work schedule. I provide this info only as a reason to explain why we haven’t tried Huli Sue’s until today. We have walked by several times, but since they are closed on Tue and Wed, we have never been in. After dining there today I will admit that was a very poor plan on our part!

So…after wanting to go but failing to show up when they were open, we saw them on “Diners, Drive-in’s, and Dive’s” and decided this was the week we would change our schedule and make it happen.

I’ll admit that I’m a SPAM lover, so when I saw on the show that they make their own version I knew I had to try it, and it was great! We also got the “Crispy St. Louis Ribs” and those were nothing short of amazing. For main dishes my wife and I got the Hawaiian Combo Bowl which comes with Huli Chicken, Pork Katsu and Sweet Chili Shrimp. All bowls include Hawaiian Mac Salad, Pickled Cabbage, and Rice. They arrived and they were big and beautiful. Then I dug in and began enjoying the flavors, and those flavors just don’t stop! I started with the pork, which was nicely crisp, then tender and delicious. Next the chicken, nice char on the outside, crispy skin, tender and delicious with just enough of a glaze to accent the smoky flavor without overpowering. So Good! Shrimp is probably my favorite food of all, and these did not disappoint. First off…they were HUGE and the sweet chili breading accented the perfectly cooked shrimp! I took my first bite of the Hawaiian Mac expecting just another version of mac n cheese and was hit by an unexpected flavor bomb. OK, this stuff is so good!!! At this point I was not surprised that the Pickled Cabbage was delicious adding flavor to each bite. Not that I needed any sauce, but there were four on the table, so I put a bit of each on my app plate to pick a favorite. No such luck, they are all good, so I suggest tasting them all and deciding how you want to use them. Adding the Lilikoi Gold and Crackseed to a bit of rice, scooping that up with some of the cabbage and adding a piece of the pork creates a very memorable bite!
At this point we were all sharing bites and nibbles and it was then that Huli Sue’s became one of those places where I will trust that everything they offer will be delicious! The brisket was some of the most flavorful that I’ve had in a very long time, and the pickled cabbage added to the sandwich is just what is needed to make the taste pop!
So, the food is great, but lots of places have great food so then the focus moves to the people. We were greeted warmly, escorted to our table, attention was steady, drinks stayed full, and we were checked on regularly but not too much. Several members of the staff stopped to chat, and we learned a bit about the restaurant and the folks that work there. One is from where my oldest son lives in Oregon. Some had spent the night in a hotel room that the owners provided so that employees did not have to decide if they wanted to drive on icy roads. What an awesome thing to do so that staff that can’t afford to miss a shift don’t have to decide between what they’re comfortable with and losing income. If there were no other reasons to return….this alone would bring me back!
That all brings me to what I call my “Trifecta of Happiness,” which is Great Food, served by Great People, at Great Prices. The food is outstanding, (bummed it took us this long to enjoy it.) We are already planning to return, and to target days that have specials like the Brisket Reuben on Saturdays. The PEOPLE are awesome! Not only did they provide perfect service, but they took time to chat and make the visit fun! And finally, great PRICES! Now, I didn’t say low prices, I said great prices! My Hawaiian Combo Bowl was well worth the $26 price!
Wonderful experience! You gotta try Huli Sue’s!

We knew when we’re in for something special when the patio had no more seating. We were immediately greeted by the most pleasant maitre’d and sat indoors around 12:45PM on a Friday. The space was very bright and open, and you could clearly see the kitchen and bar.
We were greeted promptly by our waitress Marisa, who walked through the entire menu; and was so kind and patient.
Without a doubt, this was one of the best lunches l’ve had in quite some time. I will make the drive to visit this restaurant again, I was too full for dessert so of course I have to return!!

On our work trip in Asheville, the last night of a “food tour” was at Huli Sue’s. Here are some sound bites from our table:
“This is the best bbq I’ve had in my life.”
“I want to eat slower because I’m going to bed sad when I finish this.”
“Best food we’ve had all week.”

The atmosphere was very lovely, clean, and not too loud. The food was phenomenal (I personally got the poke bowl… and it might’ve surpassed the poke bowl I had in Cape Town, South Africa!). And our server, Ren, was extremely kind, personable, and a fun time! Thankful for the experience all around.

We all are telling friends & family about this place!

Great food al fresco, and excellent service. Portions were generous and the food was hot. Tried the combo bowl (pork katsu, chicken thighs and shrimp) with rice, Hawaiian mac salad on the side; and brisket plate with corn bread and sweet potato fries. Pineapple upside down cake. Will definitely be back.

Me and My Wife had the pleasure to stop in the other day straight from the door, we were greeted gracefully. Firstly, the place was beautiful.

Me and my wife got two different bowls. I decided to get the shrimp bowl and the shrimp or some of the biggest I have seen, my wife got the chicken bowl. Everything about this place is greatness, you 100% need to make the trip.

Delicious food, amazing staff, bustling atmosphere! A little touch of Hawaii in Asheville. Great selection of food – bowls, sandwiches, plates and platters and everything we had was truly delicious. Portion sizes are large, enough to take home and savor the next day.

We were looking for good bbq in Asheville so we stopped in on Thursday night for dinner. So glad we did! Food was very delicious and plentiful. We had the pulled pork sandwich and the mahi tacos. The pulled pork was very tender & juicy! The mahi in the tacos was cooked to perfection and the slaw, avocado and cilantro added on top was such a good combination! We also ordered a side of the cornbread and it was scrumptious! The table sauces were so yummy we had to buy a bottle of each one. Our dining experience was made even better by our amazing server, MARISA!! She was so friendly and informative and even let us sample a small taste of the brisket for future reference. Brisket was also cooked to tender & juicy perfection! We will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. Hopefully we will have Marisa as our server again. She is definitely an asset to Huli Sue’s BBQ!

Nice Place to have a tasty lunch or dinner. Great service and atmosphere, especially outside.
We had tuna bowl (we did not like the cold noodle salad inside, but the rest was, Hawaiian smash burger (side salad with blue cheese sauce was nice), double bacon cheeseburger and huli’s chicken sandwich (nachos with cheese sauce ok, but not awesome, just a bit too basic), smoothies
Unfortunately no kids menue / portions

A clear recommendations overall.
