I had the vegan oxtail with yams and red beans with rice. I also had a vegan chicken sandwich w cheese and fries. Everything was well seasoned and just tasty. The texture went well with the imitation. They let me try the tomato bisque which was equally flavorful. Thank you for an excellent experience.
Food-excellent. Service-well it was good, server was multi tasking, the place is small. Atmosphere- its nice its is not elegant or trashy, it’s clean, colorful and upbeat.

I have been to this restaurant multiple times but this is the first time I’ve gotten the Mango-Pinapple Jerk Shrimp. It was good. Cabbage was well cooked and seasoned, yams were good but more like sweet potato casserole “style”. The jerk shrimp was good as well. My complaint, they switched their containers from the last time I visited. Used to be the styrofoam white containers and now they have the smaller black plastic ones. These containers are a bit smaller, not deep at all and the jerk shrimp only comes in one size, which is their large dinner portion. For $25 (after tax), 8 shrimp that doesn’t automatically come with rice so it’s just sitting in sauce and half ladle filled sized sides, is just not cutting it. It “looks” filling but it is not because the containers are thin. I probably will eat here again but probably only to get a lunch special. I get they need to make their money but serving dishes for the same price or more, for less food is not it.

Husband wanted to get Jamaican on his bday so he chose this place. I ordered curry chicken and he got the oxtails. The curry chicken to me was ok the curry was a little thicker than usual making it a little bitter but still it was okay and I love that they add potatoes, a lot of places don’t. You also definitely get your moneys worth on the portion. I got a medium and it was more than enough. My husband’s oxtails on the other hand were tough. You couldn’t break the meat off with a fork, he had to pick them up with his fingers to eat them. You couldn’t even stick the fork in them. He did mention it and the lady bought out a very small sample for him to try to see if that was tough but she said it came from the same batch but he didn’t try it so since he didn’t I don’t know what her point was going to be. Anyway I had also bought to pieces of cake, chocolate and the pineapple upside down cake. We tried the chocolate and it was dry, couldn’t tell if our eyes were closed if that was chocolate and the middle was runny (like a thin watered down chocolate). So we both tried the other cake I spit it right out into my napkin. It crumbled in my mouth dry and lumpy or spongy idk but it was horrible. I am really upset with myself that I didn’t go ahead and bring that to their attention and ask for my money back at least. I just hate confrontations, people were there. I feel like I’m going to look like I’m the problem. I feel like the health department needs to be involved over the cakes. Either they weren’t made well from the start or they were left on there too long.

Almost inedible. I only gave 2 stars because the cabbage wasn’t bad and the oxtails were tender, but everything else was awful. The oxtails were incredibly sweet. The cornbread had a weird taste to it that I couldn’t pinpoint or finish. The mac and cheese had a gritty taste, but had the same sweetness as the oxtails. I wasn’t able to finish my food unfortunately.

So I’ve been several times and they’ve made minor mistakes with the order no biggie right. But today My mother order was right at $96. Times are hard so spending $96 and not even eating in a restaurant is crazy..But for you to mess up the order we asked for cabbage they put collards I’m guessing because one of the lunches we did ask for collards, both that two would’ve been ok but my mother took one bite and started coughing until it turned into like a choke. They were so salty and hot. So I was like you’re over reacting so I tried mine because I actually ordered the collards and oh my goodness she was not over reacting. I like hot food and it burned my throat and it was way to salty. Then I thought let’s just eat the chicken my chicken was a bit tough and everyone knows the potatoes supposed to be some what soft but they were hard and the carrots. The best thing on my plate were the yams. So I guess I paid $30 for some yams because my mother didn’t eat her Curry chicken and neither did I. And let’s not talk about the two orders of oxtails medium going for $24 a plate we had two of those and they said they were tough..smh I don’t know if this was just a bad day or they made some changes but I was highly disappointed. I’m not trying to bash this business but I was to upset to call and didn’t want to waste gas driving back. So this is so the owner head chef or someone needs to check this food prices are already up..so at least give us something we can eat. That was her one treat to herself and her household for the month. A hundred dollars on lunch right here at Christmas and you can’t eat it

I have overlooked this restaurant’s lackluster customer service in the past because the food was usually pretty good, but things have recently taken a turn for the worse. On November 30th, I called to place an order for pickup as I was leaving my parking spot on Naval Station Norfolk. After a few rings, a woman answered, and I requested to place a pick-up order. She asked me to hold, which I agreed to, understanding that it’s a busy time between 12-1 p.m.
However, I stayed on hold for 22 minutes while I drove to the restaurant, hearing their door chime repeatedly as new customers entered and were helped. When I arrived, I hung up the call and stood in front of the plexiglass for another 3-4 minutes before the woman finally acknowledged me with, “Hang on, I’ll be right with you.” I replied, “You can hang up the phone—I’m here now.” She responded with a laughing, “Oops, my bad, sorry.”
After additional waiting, she finally asked for my order. I visit on Wednesdays specifically for their cowfoot soup, which is usually very good when made right. (The previous Wednesday I drove there only to be told they did not have the soup of the day) I ordered two mediums, which should have been a simple order to prepare. After about 12 more minutes, I was handed my order and charged $28. Their menu, accessible via a QR code in the shop, lists the soup at $9.75, so I expected my total to be around $23. I’m not sure if I was overcharged or if the menu is outdated. When I got home, I was seriously disappointed. Instead of soup, I received a mushy mix of potatoes, cornmeal lumps, and what looked like a porridge made of squash and cornmeal and very few small pieces of meat. To make things worse, I found several eyelashes in the dish. This experience has likely been my last with this restaurant. I do not recommend it—you’re better off driving to MPs.

We went on a day when fish was the main dish….they had no fish….they had no burgers….they pretty much had nothing but beef stew…so we all got beef stew. It was under impressive. The Mac and cheese was soggy as if the noodles had been soaking all day. One of us had no beef in our beef stew, the other had a good amount of beef but no veggies and another got a whole bunch of potatoes. The guy behind the counter was unforgiving in his attitude about not having anything too, it was laughable at best. To say we won’t be back anytime soon is an understatement. Unless it’s the LAST carribbean joint in Hampton Roads running….we’ll drive to Richmond instead – it was THAT bad! I wouldn’t feed it to the stray cats.

I have pro’s & cons.

The jerk chicken with pineapple mango salsa with double rice/peas was very good.

The cons

I ordered a coconut treat & it was hard as a brick (see video). How can you sell something so old & hard.

I ordered 2 Pattie’s they were alright. One seemed to be a bit old.

Google said they opened at 10:00. I walked in and the lady yelled out we are closed. We open at 10:30. No good morning apology. 2 customers showed up and went and ordered next door. I almost left and got something else but said let me give them a chance.
