⚓ Great drinks, better company, best views. Located right on the Portage Canal, Small Craft was created as a gathering place for locals and adventurers alike. Inspired by the Keweenaw’s waterfront history, we set out to build a bar where community, craft drinks, and great company come together. We serve craft cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits, with an emphasis on quality drinks in a relaxed setting. Our space offers cozy indoor seating, stunning waterfront views, and a welcoming atmosphere. Coming this summer: our outdoor beer garden, perfect for warm-weather gatherings. Whether you’re fresh off the trails, the water, or just looking for a place to unwind, Small Craft is where good drinks and good company meet.

Good selection of drinks, great views of the canal. You would never know this is a newer place. It was set up well with a great vision of that cute place to stop for a good cocktail. There are some snacks on the menu, and as you can see from the pic, they put together a great charcuterie board.

We ordered a pizza and had it delivered – had a few drinks sitting and enjoying the sights of the portage. Great idea large enough for a small or large party. Good spot can’t wait to try some food once they can roll it out!

Great bar with specialty cocktails. Outdoor venue has great views of the lake and portage lift bridge. Best clientele in town. They don’t do food. Trivia on Wednesday. Food trucks on special occasions.

This is a nice spot to have a drink and relax with friends, or even on your own. The drinks are great, and the service is friendly. There are lots of alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices. There is a food truck nearby that serves delicious options that you can enjoy with your drink. Grab a chair outside and relax with a view of the canal. There is inside seating as well. If you order from the food truck, you will get a pager to let you know when your order is ready. There are also lawn games! The bar area can get busy, and they don’t have table service, so sometimes the ordering can get a little chaotic (I think I inadvertently cut in front of a couple of people), and while there are lots of chairs outside, there are only a few tables. Overall, though, Small Craft is a great addition to the area.

A great new little spot. Happening place with a fair amount of options. Various beers on tap that seem to be a rotating selection. Lots of canned beverages available: beers, seltzers. Cocktails and Mocktails. Flavored popcorn for sale. Definitely a place to keep an eye on.

One of my favorite places to grab a cocktail and take in the views! You can tell the owners of Small Craft have a keen eye for design. One thing I really appreciate is the amount of NA options. We have a lot of friends who do not drink, and knowing they can enjoy a quality mocktail or hop water is really nice. We love small craft!!

A Long-Awaited Gem on the Canal

There’s something really special about seeing a place come into its own — and Small Craft feels like exactly the kind of spot this beautiful waterfront location in Hancock was always meant to be. I used to work in this building years ago, and it’s incredible to see it now, transformed into such a warm, inviting gathering place right on the canal.

On a sunny afternoon, there’s nowhere I’d rather be. Whether you’re catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet solo moment, it’s the perfect place to slow down and soak up the best of the Keweenaw.

The Hugo Spritz was absolute perfection — crisp, floral, and just the right amount of sparkle. The cocktail menu is full of fresh, creative options — and I love that they also offer non-alcoholic drinks, making it a great spot for sober and sober-curious folks to enjoy something special, too.

The atmosphere is relaxed, stylish, and welcoming, and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful — you can tell they care about building something meaningful here.

If you’re in the Keweenaw, trust me: this is where you want to be. ✨

I came here to check it out last week, and I’ve already been back twice. The atmosphere is chill and modern, especially relative to the other bars in the area.

The drink selection is broad, I can come in and grab a craft IPA, and my SO can get a cocktail, makes us both happy!

I’m also a big fan of the location. If I had a complaint it would be that it’s too cold outside so I can really only soak in the sunshine and views for a limited time before I get cold and have to go back inside. I can’t wait to enjoy this spot in the summer!

Something to note, they don’t offer food, but they seem to typically have a food truck on site so it’s a non-issue.

They have the best cocktail menu. They taste just as good as they sound. Hannah makes the best ones. We sat in the igloo which was fun too.
