At our Monroe, NC location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

1st time in . I usually just drive by! Well, i just left a review however, again this group of young kids are doing great over here. I gave them some advice and they received it well. Dont place plastic wrapped cutlery on people fresh food. As a consumer comming in foe the first time, I dont know if it feel on the floor prior to reaching my plate” , We are still in a covid era where cleanliness has to be the key. No cross contamination of any kind. The salmon was prepared perfectly, along with the sides. Okra and slaw. The advice was received and not met with an attitude. Thank you for overstanding and keep up the good work food was good.

I normally use a drive thru, but decided to walk in since I hadn’t been inside before. The place is fine, the teenage worker that assisted me was like ordering on a hidden camera show… She mis-repeated everything I asked for and multiple times. That was frustrating because I thought I was being clear and using their terminology from their menu. At least the food was right. The fish was rather skinny also… Not a great visit. On a positive note, I am leaving the readers a menu picture.

I know the owners, they used to be customers of mine a few years ago. However, this was the 1st time I’ve been back here since COVID shut the place down. As far as the restaurant itself, the interior has had some good improvements & upgrades.

Now, the reason for the rating is simple, the girl at the register had to reenter my order twice & then had to get assistance to correct her mistakes. As everyone can see, the portions are smaller than they used to be & the “all you can eat” has been suspended until further notice. (More than likely due to supplier shortages & staff shortages too. Plus, with price increases that are about to affect everyone, customer retention will be imperative.) My personal suggestions to help this is, instead of an “all you can eat” have a “plus one” at the same price as the A.Y.C.E. – increase the portions 20% for the 1st serving (if the fish portions are small add an additional piece) and start with 3 pieces of fish. The “plus one” would be one refill of all the items served the first time around except with the 20% reduction. (As you can see it the picture)

As far as the taste of the food, I can see they’ve kept that level of quality that I remember – which is why I waited for the dining area to re-open. (I hate reheating fish & will throw it in the trash before eating it reheated)

Hope y’all notice this because I think this suggestion would help.

Dinning room needed cleaning. Tables and chairs wiped down, floor needed attention. Peices of paper towels, food and condiments all over the place.
Tarter sauce and ketchup bottles needed to be wiped.
Since pandemic locked down termination No one’s remembers to keep dinning rooms clean

The cashier was rude, obviously racist, had no patience with explaining the menu to myself as a senior and a friend. The food was smaller portions of fish. She also yelled / screamed the order number out for pickup. We were polite. She offered no comment to us concerning have a good day . The only friendly associate was a young man working there . He told us to have a good day. This needs to be addressed in this day and time. We spend our hard earned at Captain d’s. If this keeps occurring, it will turn customers away

Truth & Happiness
To be honest, this Captain D’s location is not bad. This location is one of the most consistent restaurants in the area. The food portions are okay.

It’s food quality would be better if they used fresh cooking oil more frequently, change the recipes for its Mac & cheese, and used a better breaded okra.

Their baked potatoes also need to be served fresh & not over cook, after all there is an extra charge for a substitution & a loaded potato.

The employees are reasonably accommodating but no extra exuberance given.
The cost is currently inflated, but it is a got to option in this area.
