High-energy tavern for house pints & chewy, Detroit-style pizza squares made with local elements.

I was visiting SF during Highlank Park Brewery’s Timbo week. Since Cellarmaker made their version of Timbo, I checked out the brewery for their Timbo and Detroit-style pizza. The place had chill, relaxing city vibes, and the Timbo was great and the pizza was PERFECT—soft inside and toasted outside. Yum!
While I enjoyed their food, I probably missed the warm human interaction that I typically feel at breweries at least in SoCal. Perhaps this is just a SF thing? (I noticed that most of the billboards in the city there was related to AI while the common billboard you’d see in LA is either entertainment or injury lawyers ) Don’t get me wrong—I loved the excellent description of each beer on their Toast menu. Great work!! However, as a person who’s new to the brewery, taking a long time to read through the menu and make an “important” decision on what to order could’ve been stress-free, interactive and fun. Overall, I found the interaction between customers and staff members who served food and drinks to the table was a bit transactional. That’s all, but I’d go back and order at the bar next time!

I love Cellarmaker beer but never tried their pizza. Went here on a Saturday night. Fairly crowded but found some seating. Normally I’m not a fan of Detroit style pizza but I thought this was great. I got the carribean jerk chicken pizza. For one hungry person I think 3 slices is plenty, if I was splitting it I would be fine with 2 slices plus a side.

I used to go to the Cellarmaker brewery in soma and still love their IPAs.
The staffs were super nice and friendly.
We ordered a square pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms. The pepperoni was excellent and the beet salad was also great!
However, the mushroom pizza was a bit of a letdown—it was very bland and lacked flavor. I also wouldn’t recommend the calamari; it was dry and just didn’t taste good.

If pizza is your thing and Detroit style is your ultimate you MUST eat here. The pizza dough is light, fluffy and melts in your mouth. While the cheese is almost fried onto the sides making it chewy and crispy. The toppings a generous and stacked. We got seated right away at the bar with no reservations. Pizza came out quick and hot. This place ranks way above Square Pie Guys for me. Oh and the hot sauce was also fire – tangy, complimentary and spicy.

I fell in love with this pizza! It was so fresh and tasted amazing. We got classic pepperoni Detroit style pizza and some cream sodas. It was absolutely delicious. I also fell in love with their house made hot sauce. It added to the flavor of the Pepperoni and just tied everything together. Absolutely hit the spot. We can’t wait to come back!

Cellaramaker is a must-try for Detroit-style pizza lovers in Misión st!
The Detroit-style pizza is phenomenal. The crust is perfectly crispy and chewy, with a delicious caramelized cheese edge. The toppings are fresh and flavorful, and the sauce is the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. The craft beer selection is also excellent, with a wide variety of local and regional brews on tap.
I highly recommend Cellarmaker to anyone looking for a great pizza and beer experience.
On top of pizza and beer, the crew is the best!
Thanks,
Gonzalo

Cellarmaker makes amazing beer to begin with, so even without the pizza, this place would be worth the trip. But the pizza? Holy shit, absolutely fantastic Detroit style pizza. Crispy outside, chewy inside, perfectly crispy cupped pepperoni and just the right amount of sauce on top. The sauce had the proper little bit of sweetness and chunky texture I expect from good Detroit style pizza too. My friend and I both agreed it was among the best pizza we’ve had in recent memory.

This is a perfect place to have dinner with friends. The atmosphere is cool, with jazz music in the background. I loved the Brussel sprouts and also the cooked carrots with hummus. They don’t sound very special but they were yummy! The pizzas are interesting and also good. A bit greasy and with a lot of cheese but I definitely liked them. I tried a dark beer with some holiday spices that was great! The waiter was also super nice. So overall a great experience and I think prices were fair given the good quality.

While searching Reddit one night, I heard there was a place in the Mission district serving up some of the best pizza in the Bay Area. As the pizza junkie that I am, I made it a mission to check out Cellarmakers.
As your resident Detroit native, I have to say this is how you make a good Detroit style pie! The dough was soft and flakey. The pizza wasn’t super dense and the edges had a cheese crust you dream about. A solid A+ pie. The beer selection and service was spot on as well. This moves up to the top of my list for the best Detroit style pizza in the Bay Area.
