As soon as we walked into Mom’s, we felt like everyone had been expecting us, with the enthusiastic greeting we received. We were hiking on the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail, as part of a larger hike across the country, and felt totally welcomed in Maxwell. Even though it was Monday, it was pretty lively. I had been craving chicken strips, and we got a nice crisp salad. Everything tasted great, service was great, hope to come back here again. The locals really made it a fun time, thanks everybody!

Had the taco pizza last night and it was the bomb diggity. This place always has good service and the food is also good. Prices aren’t the best but it’s the only game in town and the place is fully renovated and remodeled with new equipment, seating and sound system.

The nice thing about Mom’s is that it’s also a Northern Lights franchise and the Restaurant side and bar side are completely separate. You don’t have to deal with people who are drunk/drinking on the Restaurant side while eating with your family but can still order yourself a beer or drink if you want.

i was here the other night and can’t say i enjoyed the experience, i was dining out with a friend just trying to enjoy our night out and the servers were very kind to us but seemed very rude to their other staff, and the hostesses were very kind to us but seemed extremely tired and seemed unprepared it didn’t seem like their fault it seemed like a training issue. staff should be trained and prepared for a long shift and should be allowed to sit down every so often seeing that the hostesses are younger woman. the servers were also inattentive it took us forever to get our orders in and staff barely checked in on us seeing if we needed refills or anything else’s. food and drinks weren’t horrible. fries were soggy and lacked salt i also got the avocado toast and the avocado tastes old and was a little brown i asked for no goat cheese on it and it still came out with goat cheese. if you’re looking for good service and good food don’t come here.

Stumbled on this place while looking for something to eat during a long bicycle ride. Mom’s had ready-to-go deli sandwiches and pizza slices. This place fills a gap from the closing of the grocery store and Casey’s store in Maxwell. “Mom” was there and she is a very pleasant lady who was willing to make any sandwich we wanted if the pre-made ones weren’t what we wanted. We did not try the regular kitchen menu so can’t comment on that. There is a full bar attached to the restaurant for any libations you might want beyond bottled water and pop. This is a great place to stop for a bite to eat while biking the newly paved Heart of Iowa Nature Trail.

Don’t be fooled by the outside and use the door on the right! It was a great small town bar and had good food. They usually don’t serve food until 4 on Saturday, but I would double check. We had a tenderloin sandwich with cottage cheese and a homestyle steak sandwich with fries. The tenderloin was not paper thin, so it wasn’t the “bigger than the plate” type. But the flavor, breading, and bun make it worthy of becoming a “go-to”! The steak sandwich was a little on the fatty side for my dining partner, but I know most wouldn’t have shied away from it. The fries were great; appeared to be beer batter. The service was amazing and the bartender was attentive. We will be back for sure and are excited to try all the other things on the menu!!

If I could give it negative stars I would. Taco Pizza cold and flavorless. Onion rings not cooked through and the help staff clueless and RUDE!

Food was delicious! Even the kids meals were really good quality; real grilled chicken breast on the sandwich and homemade Mac & Cheese. My husband got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and said it was one of the best he has ever had. I had the grinder Scooby, and it was HUGE and loaded with meat and peppers. If we are ever in the area again, we will be back.

So, I have lived in Maxwell now for a year and a half….and yesterday was my FIRST TIME ever visiting “Mom’s” in Maxwell. Upon arrival we immediately got a seat, and wasn’t busy at all on the diner side….(I never went over to the bar side though, just for the record). The waitress was super attentive and nice! She was even very helpful with the menu & got drink orders very promptly! Service was amazing and the atmosphere was inviting and casual. Gave me the vibe of “hanging out in Mom’s living room chatting with the family”, however , a comment was made “we should leave as they might get upset if we sit and talk and are not eating”….(Comment was by a member of MY party, not the business). I thought “why would she get upset #1 as they weren’t busy at the time, #2 they’re called “MOM’S “? But we got our things and left once we finished eating. With the food portion of this review…..it was alright. Was very hot and fresh….. HOWEVER, pretty expensive for store bought deep fried mini tacos and some onion rings. Yeah, portion size was good….but quality was low for the pricing. Scooby was great! But I wish it wasn’t so “dry”….also when somebody asks for jalapenos please make sure they get them I ordered the taco Scooby, although it was good I wish there was more moisture in the dish and it wasn’t so dry. It may be coupled with the fact that there’s Doritos inside of a breaded item already giving it an extra layer of a breading type item. Would have been nice if it was offered with a side of sour cream or salsa (not mild sauce packs). We requested 2 different appetizers and both were sold out and unavailable (bacon cheese bites & one other one). My son ordered the Rib eye sandwich and although there was a hefty portion of meat….it seemed EXTREMELY fatty, it had A LOT of fat. Food was basic…service was great! Yes I would be back again….just not as often as it is quite pricey for a family of 5-6, whom includes a 6’5” bottomless pit. If it’s gonna be called “Mom’s “, as a fellow small business owner myself & in my professional opinion…I would consider making more dishes “homemade style” and not so much “store bought”. I would also chat & interact with my customers way more, as MOM’S usually do with “family”…not just “stay in the kitchen”…catch my drift??? Until next time…
