Hands down, The Horny Toad is one of the best hidden gems in all of Central Texas! We took the scenic backroads drive out to Cranfills Gap (which is half the fun—beautiful Hill Country views!), and this place absolutely delivered.
The burgers? Absolutely legendary. We got the classic cheeseburger on the special “Toad bun” — juicy, perfectly seasoned, with just the right toppings. I also tried the B-witch (loaded with bacon, jalapeños, grilled onions… wow), and it lived up to every bit of the hype. People weren’t kidding when they say it’s worth driving 50+ miles for! The onion rings were crispy perfection and disappeared in minutes.
The atmosphere is pure old-school Texas magic—rustic metal building, neon beer signs, barn wood, license plates on the walls, and that welcoming honky-tonk/biker-bar feel. Friendly staff treated us like family, the service was quick and spot-on, and the cold beer hit the spot perfectly.
It’s not fancy, and that’s exactly why it’s awesome. This is real-deal, no-pretenses Texas at its best—great food, great people, and a vibe you just can’t find in the city.
If you’re anywhere near Waco, Clifton, or cruising the backroads, do yourself a favor and make the trip to The Horny Toad. You won’t regret it. We’ll be back every time we’re in the area!

Imagine being in a small town with barely a gas station and enough acreage for a state park for camping nearby, and then out of nowhere on the horizon you see a quaint little biker bar that pulls double duty as a darn tasty diner as well. You pay extra for convenience, but the burger was beautifully presented and yummy. The calamari was delicious. The French fries rivalled those found in Bear King Brewery. And the batter on the mozzarella sticks was very fresh and crisp. It took a bit to get our order, and the food took a moment as well. But I don’t mind the food taking a while, because it was all freshly made, and so hot you couldn’t eat it immediately (the true mark of freshness. They didn’t let it sit around after it came off the stove).

I’m not sure how this place got started in 2006. I’m not sure why they are named after a motorcycle dealership in Temple, TX. I do know that as far as rural biker establishments go, this is one of the better one’s I’ve seen, and I’m glad we came in.

This is a hidden gem! If you want an authentic small town Texas restaurant, then this is it! We’re from the UK and regularly visit Texas to see family, so visited this place while travelling. The place was recommended to us for the burgers, so we went for them and were not disappointed! Fantastic! Make sure you have the burger with the Toad Bun! We also had the sharing plater, which was great. The attention from the waitress was fantastic and we had great service from her. Thank you! When I return with other family members, I’ll be bringing them back here!

From now on, when I get out of town visitors, this would be the first place I take them to for dinner or lunch. We ordered BBQ back ribs and fajitas. Both were exceptional. The fries is a special mention. I would go there just for the fries! We had the house beer. It was a perfect compliment to the meal. And the finale was the best strawberry shortcake I ever had. It is so flavorful even without the cream or the strawberries.

The service is awesome and the whole vibe is just wonderful. I will definitely be coming here again.

A hole in the road about 2 hours south west outside of Fort Worth is what some call a dive or hole in the wall. This building with uneven floors, a moose with sunglasses, and a bar maid that calls out your drink (locals) before you get to the bar, table or pool table. She has fascinating stories about how each plate was created. Definitely ask about the BITCHWITCH… After feeling like part of the atmosphere and several jokes pass we order a Hamburger and try their new Philly CheeseSteak. The hamburger was plump, juicy, steaming off the meat, while tomato, lettuce and onion was crispycool. Oh yea pickles that were the size of sliced full grown cucumbers. The meat had drooling flavor of a well cooked steak. Then there was the Bun: soft, smooth like biting into air and then the burger its self fills your mouth and one bite leads to the next. You never want it to end. Don’t think the CheeseSteak was any less. The meat had a great steak flavor with just the right amount of saute onions, mushrooms and cheese. This was a stop to fill us for dinner, but became so much more by our choice and it was worth every minute. Thank you, #DTNLivingLife #DTNTransporter

Wonderful experience!
The food was outstanding! We had the onion rings, which were ok for an appetizer. The main course was the burger! Got the toad bun, which is AWESOME! Burger itself was one of the best that I have had. Had great flavor! The service was outstanding as well! Very friendly and attentive.
Highly recommend visiting this place!

We rode down from Waxahachie just to get some air. This was a great destination. Great atmosphere and decor! If you’re looking for a place to go just to go, this is a great choice. Burger was juicy and the fries are cooked perfectly with crispy skin and hot tender inside.
