Khao Moo Dang – downtown Portland – Reddit

They make one of the best curries I’ve ever had. Perfect for this weather, and they use OTA tofu as well! Yeedeedee25. • 3mo ago.

The service at Khao Moo Dang was attentive, friendly, and very fast. The ambiance is casual and welcoming, with a cute outdoor seating area — I especially enjoyed sitting outside. The food was steaming hot and full of flavor. The broth was different from what I’m used to, but absolutely delicious and very rich in taste. The noodles were the best I had during my whole trip in Oregon, and the dumplings were incredible. I even got a plate to go with a regular broth (not the creamy one), and it was just as flavorful. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Portland! I ordered 12. BA-MHEE TOM-KHA and steamed dumplings & #20 to go for dinner:)

I ordered the Dumpling Soup in Tom-Yum Broth and added a Side of Steamed Egg Noodle to it. The Dumpling Soup in Tom-Yum Broth was flavorable. Very tasty. The dumplings, crispy pork belly and noodles went well together. It was a good portion and the food seemed fresh. It had a amount of spiciness that I wasnt expecting.

The Lychee Hibiscus Iced Tea, Cha Ma-Nao and Bottled Ginger Beer were all tasty as well. I need to remember to request utensils and straws next time because the order did not come with it. Since, I am in a hotel it was hard to come by a straw. However, I would definitely order again.

Food is literally out of this world. I’m used to these flavors, but not in the way they do it. Curry noodles #8? Absolutely amazing!! Everything is always cooked thoroughly, taste so amazing, and nicely priced. The servers are always friendly, patient, and nice. I’m obsessed with this place. A must try in Portland.
Must sure to bust your tables! There’s outdoor seating covered and uncovered, and indoor seating. All the tables are quite small due to how small the place is, but there’s no issue moving around.

Been hearing a lot about this location and finally had the time to try it for myself. It was so worth it! I got the Ba-Mhee Tom-Kha and was enthused about the composition of the dish. All of the ingredient were on the firmer side and gave a very satisfying feeling to eat. It was the first time in my memory that I enjoyed every piece of meat in my dish. They really mean it when they say that pork belly is crispy! The broth was nothing to sneeze at either. I have never had ginger be incorporated as a flavor in a broth. Mixed with the coconut milk flavor created such a unique taste that I could not get enough of. The only disappointment was that I did not have room for eating more!

Driving down the east side of Portland on Hawthorne, you’ll find Khao Moo Dang, a quaint Thai restaurant serving authentic street food. It’s especially known for its flavorful rice and noodle dishes.
Things to know:
• Street parking only
• The space is small, so the line can feel intimidating—but it’s absolutely worth the wait
• Seating is available inside or on the patio
* You bus your own tables.

Come. Try. Enjoy.

Exceptional Thai food to come try here in Portland. I heard all about this place when I got to the city and knew I had to try it. The night we showed up, it was really busy, yet we still managed to find a table after we ordered. The workers were nice enough to wipe it down and clean it up a little before we sat down.

I ordered the khao moo dang as I was told it was one of their signature dishes to try. When I have Thai food, I do not usually go for a rice dish but this one was really calling my name and it did not disappoint. The assortment of meats that came with it was plentiful as was the portion of rice given. It was the perfect balance! Plus all of the spices and peppers on the table you could ask for was the real cherry on top.

The service was fast even though it was busy on a Saturday night and all of the workers were all very friendly to us. The woman at the register was so cool and recommended us different dishes to try. Also, I really like this restaurant’s system of having people bus their own tables. I have never seen that before at restaurant but it really impressed me.

First time trying Khao Moo Dang, and it was absolutely worth the wait. There was a line, but once we got the food, it made total sense why this place is so popular.

The flavors are very unique and unlike typical Thai food — rich, well balanced, and incredibly delicious. Everything tasted authentic and thoughtfully prepared.

Definitely a spot I’d come back to, and one I’d recommend to anyone who wants to try something a little different and truly flavorful.

Saw great reviews on Google maps and TikTok, hubby and I came to try it out. There was a line when we arrived, when we ate and when we left. The line moves quick but there was a constant flow of customers coming in. I ordered the 1.2 Khao Moo Dang Pi-Set, it was 10/10. Didn’t add any extra sauces. The sauce it came with was super good! And the garlic wasn’t noticeable in the rice. My hubby got the number 11 Ba-Mhee Moo-Ob Haang. He liked it a lot as well. We both shared the dumpling soup and we asked for it spicy, we love spicy food, and it was soooo goood! We finished it all. The little soup bowls the come with the meals honestly hit the spot, they just tasted perfect.
Will be returning and the place deserves the hype. Only problem is the seating, not enough space for all the popularity it’s getting.

Fantastic, authentic Thai street food style restaurant. I was so pleased to have found this place! Nothing fancy, just straight forward, excellent simple food dishes. They have it broken down into 3 sections, Rice dishes, noodle dishes and vegetarian dishes. There is also an extensive drink menu, including beer and some wonderful cocktail choices.

Best broth I’ve ever had in my life. Thai tea delicious too. I was dreading a long wait time… but! They were so fast that we could barely fill our water cups and sit down before our food was out. Then they notified us a table inside was available so we moved (: way beyond the extra mile! It’s always packed but there are seats outside under a heated covered area. I got curry soup btw
