I’ve been a China Star customer since early childhood. Out of all the years I’ve visited, I’ve had wonderful experiences. When I was younger my favorite sushi roll to order was the crunch roll. Their chicken and corn soup is also amazing, and I love the fried noodles with duck sauce that would come with it. It’s warm, creamy, and very filling. I also recommend ordering shrimp with vegetables (brown sauce) with fried rice. For me, adding tofu is a must. It pairs really good with all the vegetables and flavors. The service is also really great. Orders come out quickly and the customer service is always lovely. The only things to note is that refills are not free on soda, which isn’t a problem for me, but it may be for other people. In conclusion, China Star is one of the best and most authentic Asian restaurants in Harlingen. They have delicious food and a great variety of it. Highly, highly recommend!

there was MOLD in the lettuce and vegetables in the fried rice, i barley noticed till i looked closer. it is not pepper or any other seasonings because it does not come off and is imbedded into the vegetables. the service was slow the ice tea, smelled like clorox i had to return it. they used water from the faucet. I asked for a bottle of water and i was almost finish eating when the water was brought to the table. the place had one person, and the place was full of people that it took for ever to get service.

There were a few items on the buffet that were really good. (Fried veggies, coconut shrimp, and some type of egg patty). However, the reminder of items I tried i was disappointed with the taste. Im a huge eggroll fan and the egg rolls there are large. Unfortunately, for me, i didnt care for their taste. I went with a group of coworkers. Half really liked it and the other half did not. I believe this will be true for everyone else. You’ll either really like this place or not.

I usually stop by the local buffet places when I travel and this place is decent. Food needs to be kept warmer and need more flavor. They do have steamed pork bun which I never find in other buffet places.

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. The food had different but delicious flavors. The rice noodles had a really good ginger taste. The buffet is on weekdays from 11a-3p and the food is made in small portions so it’s always fresh, and you can taste it. This is the best coconut shrimp I’ve ever had. The waitress was very attentive and the other staff was also friendly. Parking is also available in the rear of the building.

Staff was friendly and greeted me with a smile, the food however was not great or even good. I’m not from here and decided on this location because I was in the mood for Chinese buffet but I left hungry and disappointed. I ate half a (spring ?) roll, a piece of chicken one noodle and about 3 green beans all which were mediocre at best. Left the rest in touched. It’s my fault as I should have walked right back out once I saw the food on the line and I wouldn’t be upset at myself for spending $15 on the few bites I had.

Dumplings are not steamed anymore, new owners fry them. Wish they were steamed as they get hard when fried and left on a buffet.

2024 update: I love Chinese food. Recent meals are upgraded to 5 star. Large portions that could easily be split. We each took home an entire meal.
