Sunday lunch turned into a full Greek food takeover at GYRO HOUSE in Waukesha. We went with friends, brought a couple kids, and somehow ordered… basically the entire menu. Zero regrets.
Starters:
– Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves with herbed rice)
– Kolokeethakia (crispy fried zucchini with skordalia)
– Patates Lemonates (roasted lemon potatoes)
– Spanakopita (spinach + feta pie)
– Homemade spreads: Tirokafteri (Spicy Feta) & Eggplant Spread
Everything was fresh and full of flavor — honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of the apps here.
For mains:
Anne ordered the Loaded Platter with two chicken kabobs, rice, warm pita, tzatziki, tomatoes, onions, and a side salad.
I went with the Tour of Greece: moussaka, pastichio, spanakopita, village bread, rice pilaf, and lemon potatoes. A great choice if you want to try a few different classics. If you’re not familiar:
– Moussaka = Layers of potato, zucchini, eggplant, meat sauce, and béchamel sauce, served with pea stew and oven baked lemon potatoes baked in oven.
– Pastichio = Lasagna style Greek pasta dish with layers of noodles, grated cheese, meat sauce topped with béchamel sauce and served with a side of pea stew and oven baked lemon potatoes.
The girls ordered fries covered in all the gyro toppings (gyro + tomatoes + onions + parsley + paprika).
The boys had the Authentic Athenian Street Gyro minus the onions.
And yes — we finished with dessert. Because happiness requires layers.
– Loukoumades (Greek donuts) topped with honey + cinnamon. Warning: addictive.
– Greek Yogurt with sour cherry preserve or honey + walnuts (took these to-go).
– Baklava (also to-go… don’t judge).
– Galaktoboureko – Custard + phyllo + syrup.
– Portokalopita – Orange sponge cake.
– Bougatsa – Vanilla custard pie topped with cinnamon + powdered sugar.
Bottom line.
Andreas and the Gyro House family have created a Fun environment, offering generous portions, and food that makes you rethink your life choices (in a good way).
Thank you for a great lunch!
Also traid loukoumades and I love it.
The place is small but so cozy.
I expect to back for trying one authentic Athenian street gyro.
