Oneida is and always has been the best here – always friendly, pays attention to the customers and does her job amazing.
Now to the rest. Whoever bought this place has destroyed it. The hand painted murals are gone (PAINTED OVER), the diner style tables and chairs replaced with ugly, worn, ripped and well used tables and chairs.
They removed everything that made this place cozy, and took all the LJS signage off the building. The Americana atmosphere is completely gone and it’s unwelcoming and foreign. Looks like the owner could care less.
I only come back for Oneida – she makes sure the food is right and is still the happy face I’ve appreciated for the last 5 years.

This is on the other end of Belen New Mexico, truthfully, I do not know anywhere in 100 miles where you can find a Long John silver’s, and an aw and a&w Root beer,.
Therefore, I would say this is a cultural icon, fish and chips, they’ve increased the size of the fish, and the a&w Root beer, takes me back to the time when I was a teenager, for whatever reason, the blue straws, are really a novelly, I was in Europe for 6 months, and they’ve stopped using plastic straws, so I asked, could I buy a dozen, to take and give to a friend, the blue straws, are our cultural icon… Yes by executive order, our president did away with. Paper straws!.. I really wanted, to treat myself to a dozen hush puppies, this takes me back, 50 years, to travel through the South, I believe this is also a cultural icon, for someone who doesn’t know what they are, in the South, when they went out on Fox hunts, they would take along, this tasty treat, and they would say, to the dogs that we’re continually being noisy, eat one of these dipped in corn batter, fried in oil hush puppies meaning dogs be quiet. This is a cultural item, and it’s the only place I know you can get them, so if you’re traveling on I-25, get off, on the southernmost exit, to Belen New Mexico, turn left and go about six blocks, and on the right side you’ll find, Long. John silver’s, there’s gas, charging stations, and also clean restrooms,.. October 2025 PS and the staff were very nice, super nice, don’t go through the drive-thru actually go in and sit down. Absolutely horrible. Front register lady lied about the quality of the food.. floor was disgusting, with hush puppies smashed all over.. received food got home, 1 mile away and fish was as hard as wood, chicken was dried out, called to have my order remade, the drive thru lady wqs now on front register and told me 5 minutes, with fish in the hot dish, asked how old it was, she didnt know…?? Then had to wait even longer bc the “cook” didn’t go drop fresh fish when she asked him to. She had to ask 3 times and he lifted up his shirt as he strolling back into the kitchen?! Like good service health and food safety standard isn’t a thing bc it a small town.

We had fish and chicken. They had all the lemon sauce, hot sauce and ketchup for the kids and this is a place to get down and eat then get a root beer float from A&W. Thank you for the great fresh food!

We read the reviews before we went. The reviews were pretty bad so we didn’t know what to expect. When we walked in the 3 employees were sitting around the dining area. They immediately got up and went behind the counter to serve us. The food was fresh and produced in a timely manner. However the place was dirty and the bathrooms stank like sewer. The place needs an overall upgrade.

This is located, about a mile, north of the..Belen.exit.. I don’t know Long. John silver’s, in New Mexico. There’s probably one but I don’t know where they are, so periodically, I think it’s a fun place, to get an a&w root beer, and in addition, Long John silver’s fish and chips,.. if you haven’t had hush puppies before, they’re a tree, it’s a Southern delight, a cornbread, that they used to feed to the hunting dogs, to keep them quiet, hence the name hush puppies, just for fun. I’ll often get a dozen or more of them, as an extravagant getting treat for myself,.

It was a pretty long wait due to the fact they were trying to hire some people. So some food was being sent back. However, the lady serving, everybody was very polite and tried to accommodate everybody. The atmosphere was cool. It had a gas station next door that was connected. So That was neat!

So… I drove all the way out here from Los Lunas to Belen. After placing my order of a shrimp meal and paying for it. Which was difficult to do because they don’t know how to use the tap and pay. I ended up having to get my card out of my wallet.
Then they stated that they were out of cocktail sauce and out of coleslaw.
They gave me a half full coleslaw, but charged me full price. How can you be at a cocktail sauce? It comes in cases.
And I guess they think I’m supposed to eat my corn and coleslaw with my fingers. They didn’t give any plastic wear until I requested it.
Oh, and of course, they didn’t give any napkins either. Which I’m not supised by… that’s the way most places are these days.

Wow what happened to this place! I am disappointed this is no Baca Restaurant owned. First these waffle fries and no chips no crunchy things at the bottom. Coleslaw ugh what the heck! The remodel makes it look horrible, almost walked out. Service was actually okay. Bathroom was disgusting! Yea won’t ever come back here again so totally 100% disappointed.

today I went there pick up a order for a elderly friend ..
Unfortunately it was not a good experience. The young staff seemed to be more interested in goofing off. The cashier did a good job but the boys did not get my to go order correct. I ordered 2 fish and shrimp platters and one cheeseburger with fries. When the order was ready I left , but when I got to my friends house ( about 5 miles away ) I realized The order was short one fish and shrimp platter and even when I asked for each type of sauce they did not put in any cocktail sauce and only 1 tartar sauce. So I called back and a young lady answered and I told her the problem. She apologized and asked if I would like a credit on my name or to come back and pick it up with a little “extra food” for the inconvenience . I stated I would like to come pick up the food for my friends but I was already over 5 miles away. When I returned the boys I asked if I was the guy that came back for the platter I said yes they handed me a cold platter . I asked for a fresh cooked one for my elderly friends. They said sure. When he came back about 5 minutes later he handed me two boxes and said here is two orders and apologized. I went to drop off the platters to my friends and I told them there is an extra order for the inconvenience. They said thank you , but when they opened up both boxes one was half filled with fries and the other one had the order of fish and shrimp with no fries. ( which I think was just microwaved and not fresh , even the fries were soggy ).
I have been there many times and I’ve had good food with good service.
But now I am very unsatisfied . I don’t like being lied to by the employees. I hope the management will take care of this problem.
I would normally recommend this place but not today.
