We came a day early for our anniversary because of the pending snowstorm but we got there right as they opened and we got seated immediately. We came for the Chirashi but we also saw they had some specials for the weekend, so of course we had to get the wagyu sliders. Those are very very good.

We got the Chirashi and it was also very good. We also got one Philadelphia roll it had smoked salmon in it, also good. Definitely no complaints in any of the food. Atmosphere’s fine, nothing crazy but I’m there for the food not for stuff hanging on the wall like cracker barrel.

My wife already asked when can we go back because she wants to try the wagyu steak, I would definitely call ahead to make sure they have something like that because it might be limited. But I definitely will be definitely going back.

PS. Forgot to say after we ate I ordered more sliders.

Been to a few ramen spots in the area. The Spicy Beef Bowl is my favorite along with the edamame beans as an appetizer. The flavor is consistent. Highly Recommend!

Food and ambience is amazing! We ordered the kani salad, miso soup, tonkotsu ramen, waygu roll, fire roll, rainbow eel roll, matcha cheesecake and everything was 10/10. Ramen was authentic with tons of flavor and large portions, and the sushi was fresh. Matcha cheesecake was perfectly moist and not overly sweet. Everything was so great that I only remembered to take a picture of the ramen and dessert before devouring it all lol. Service was great and even the manager takes pride in the place and goes to each table to say hello. Don’t let the outside deter you from stepping inside—we were told they recently remodeled and the cleanliness and attention to detail really shows.

I picked Wasabi Kaizen for a small private party. I approached cautiously because the place had very few reviews on Google Maps but was still drawn to it because the food photos looked very attractive. I test-drove the restaurant by having lunch there a few days before the party – 3-roll special for $18 plus a handroll to test preparation and fish freshness. Two thumbs up. To be fair, the appetizer salad dressing was a bit too sweet and needed some soy sauce to set it off. But great overall.
I spoke to the owner to organize the party and found him very responsive and diligent. When the party started, everything was prepared and served very quickly. I ate many different rolls off the sushi boat, and they were beyond reproach. Ditto for the salads and hot food.
The restaurant building looks rather small and can be missed when one drives along Route 34 but it’s very pleasant inside. The service is good, and the staff (sushi chefs and waiters) are pleasant, easy going yet super efficient.
I have looked for decent sushi around South River and tried a few before. Wasabi Kaizen is my choice.
PS Forgot to mention that the prices were very reasonable.

Yay!
Highly recommend! Freshest fish ever! Good service!

I came in here with little appetite on an overcast day, but I was so pleased to have dined here and tried their fish.

Food:
I have only ordered the sashimi appetizer and dinner, all of which turned out to be fresh, delightful, and extremely tasty! All the sashimi we were served were very vibrant with a deep hue and looked very clean. I extremely delighted to have bitten into it and it had that “springy” feel to the bite that makes me feel like a bear or shark. Kudos to the chef for the fresh fish and nice cuts!

The portion size and price point between two people felt fair, if not, generous even! Sashimi dinner with soup and salad felt like a steal!

The soup and salad that comes with the dinner combo were also delicious. I devoured the salad without much thought other than the sauce has a nice sweet and tangy flavor! Also, best miso soup I’ve had in a long time. Very richly savory and not too salty. Tofu, scallion, and seaweed were also good. Kudos to the cooks.

Green tea was also great!

Atmosphere:
The atmosphere feels relaxed, comfortable, and clean! It feels much different (in the best way possible) than the green carpet from Wasabi34. Definitely a huge upgrade, truly fulfilling the principles of Kaizen. I’m not a huge fan of the AI prints on the walls though, but the pink blossoms and warm lighting are pleasant and picturesque. (Wish they had more flowers…) And, the service is friendly and caring! I did not get any feelings where anyone gave unwelcoming or uncaring vibes.

Unfortunately I don’t have a nice photo of the food. I demolished the dinner…but next time I will take one! So expect me to be back.

I have yet to try their hot foods…but I highly recommend supporting this local restaurant if you’re looking for high quality fresh sushi and the best miso soup ever.

Ever since its fantastic renovation, Wasabi Kaizen, true to its name, has only improved on its ramen, sushi and sashimi dishes. Walk into its cozy atmosphere and be welcomed with paper koi floating above a cloud of sakura petals. The service is friendly and prompt. Everyone here is enthusiastic about the food they serve and it shows.

I’ve eaten here several times since the restaurant’s glow up and each time, there are new menu items and specials that are fun to try out. The original Tonkotsu Ramen with its flavorful broth and slices of thick, juicy pork was excellent and now, they have a new Spicy Wagyu Beef Ramen that is as tasty, especially since I like things with a spicy kick!

The sashimi is always fresh and the portions are always generous given the price. The various sushi rolls are very creative. The Wagyu Roll is certainly worth a try—specifically for those who aren’t a fan of the raw rolls. In fact, they have a really good selection of cooked and vegetarian rolls.

They also have an appealing selection of appetizers. There’s fried chicken (karaage), the shrimp and avocado salad, shishito peppers, and okonomiyaki. Where else in central NJ can you find okonomiyaki? I, myself, like the Mentai Potato because hot fries dipped in umami yumminess is my favorite kind of snack. And if you still have room for dessert, their Matcha Cheesecake is a wonderful way to end a meal.

There is nowhere else that serves better Japanese-inspired food in central Jersey.

Went here for the good reviews and have found my new sushi/ramen spot! Food is amazing (best ramen I’ve had) and the service was top tier. Everyone from the hostesses to the server to the manager that checked on us after our meal was friendly and attentive. Server gave a comp dessert for the long wait, even though we didn’t even complain. Atmosphere is super cozy and take out is just a fresh and yummy if you want it to-go. So happy I trusted the reviews!

Sushi is always very delicious and fresh. The new owner Wally is very friendly. Hoi (I may be misspelling his name) has always had the freshest fish – I’ve been going for years. We’re thinking of doing a private party – they are now able to cordon off areas of the restaurant for private events. Highly recommend. Henrik and Jen ❤

The best and freshest sashimi every time I have visited! Staff are all super nice and friendly! Cooked food is super delicious too I’ve have been to other Japanese restaurants around the area and I would go home being super thirsty bc they add way to much MSG. But I never experience being thirsty after I eaten at Wasabi Kaizen. I highly recommend this restaurant!
