Short review, from one visit. A short menu, then again, curry & roti are Island staples. Order at the register.
Not air-conditioned the afternoon we were there, though plenty of fans keeping it pleasant.
Fairly popular and well trafficked.
“All food is made to order” so, some things might take a while.
When it gets to you on paper plates, reminding me of my time in the carribean.
Decent portions, well spiced, if a bit carb & starch heavy. It goes as a classic with the territory.
Their roti is insanely good, the real deal as far as I know. Music, non-stop.

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the kind of customer service that instantly makes you feel at home. The atmosphere is cozy and familiar—almost like stepping into a friend’s living room—and the music playing in the background has this wonderful way of taking you right back home.
The food is absolutely unforgettable. The roti is soft, flavorful, and clearly made with love, and the doubles are some of the best I’ve ever had—authentic, comforting, and full of that unmistakable island soul.
What truly sets this place apart, though, are the owners. Talking with them feels like reconnecting with people you’ve known for years. They’re warm, welcoming, and genuinely invested in making every guest feel like family.
If you’re looking for a spot that feeds both your stomach and your spirit, this is it. Highly recommended.

We came here on a Wednesday at 6pm. They close at 7 so I figured we would feel rushed and I was wrong. The owner Rodney was there and he was so gracious. He made us feel so welcomed like we were visiting him at his home. He explained Trinidadian to food to us and how to order. I feel like I learned something and I got to eat a delicious meal. The atmosphere is fun but casual with great music playing. The curry chicken roti was amazing and I love the chickpea doubles. They also have a drink special on Wednesday buy three beers get one free. Can’t wait to go back!

When we visited Trinidad & Tobago last year, we fell in love with Doubles. I was so very excited to find a place where you can buy them in Tampa.
I couldn’t believe they were only $2.99. I ate two and was stuffed. This is not only a wholesome meal, but so reasonably priced. The selection of local, fresh juices and Caribbean sodas and beers is also perfect to transport you to an island vibe.
Rodney, the Chef and owner, is also extremely friendly and makes it such a lovely experience. Don’t skip this spot in Ybor, it’s a true gem!

I hosted my birthday party here last week, and I have nothing but good things to say about Rodney and his momma at Pepper’s Island. The only thing I’m bummed out about is that I didn’t find it SOONER!!! Such wonderful and friendly staff, the food is amazing: I recommend the doubles and stew chicken w/ roti. We had a party of about 25 people and everyone had a blast!!! Please stop in and chat it up with Rodney and get a great taste of Trinidadian food. The atmosphere is light, friendly and good vibes. On Fridays or Saturdays his brother DJ Jeff plays music, so you know it’s going to be a good time!! Thank you again Rodney, you and your team made my night very special, I appreciate all your attention and efforts!! See you soon.

If you’re in Ybor City and haven’t tried Peppers Island, you are absolutely missing out. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the passion behind this place. The owners don’t just run a restaurant—they pour their heart, culture, and hospitality into every plate and every interaction. They make you feel like family the second you step through the door.
And the food? Unreal.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting Ybor, Peppers Island is the kind of restaurant you tell your friends about. Amazing people, unforgettable food, and a vibe that keeps you coming back. Highly, highly recommend. ️✨

A taste of Trinidad and Tobago in Ybor City Tampa Bay! Rodney knows how to cook traditional Trinidadian dishes and you can taste the love of food in every bite. The menu is just right and has a good variety of options, there’s also drink specials during happy hour. The minute you walk in to Peppers Island it takes you back to the roti shop you grew up with, the aroma of delicious food, the decor, the atmosphere, the music and Rodney is most welcoming and down to earth. Get here early for doubles and curry goat as it sells out every day, but there are plenty of other great options if those aren’t available, also get a Solo, Malta or a Carib to drink. I highly recommend this Trinidadian/West Indian restaurant to anyone in the bay area and surrounding areas, and please support local and small businesses in our community.

This place is a gem! The homemade food warms your stomach and your heart. It’s a mix of Trinidad and Indian. The goat curry and Dahl (in pics) were delicious and perfectly spiced. Great service too. I don’t leave many reviews but this place deserves to be shared. Will come back again.
