Never a bad meal.
Every year when we come to SD we eat here. The service is amazing and the food! You just can’t find food like this anymore. Old fashioned (in the best meaning possible), no shortcuts. Lots of love and flavor. The salad bar at most places is boring. Their salad bar is small but omg grab you some pickels and the chop chop! I had the flat iron and I’ve never seen on that thick. So good, flavor and tender. Husband got the felt mignon. Get the burgundy wine, if you are a fan of reds. The beer selection is excellent with some traditional German brews.

Wife and I each had a steak dinner; filet for her, buffalo for me. Both steaks were done perfectly to order, came with a potato and a nice vegetable medley. The salad bar was wonderful way to start the meal. it was clean and well kept with a good selection. My wife absolutely loved the soup. Had a nice selection of beer, several on tap, and wine. However, no mixed drinks which would have been nice.
The service was prompt and very friendly. I even saw the waitress track down a brochure for a table near us that was asking about some of the local sites.
Can tell they are in the middle of updating. The new floor looks great, the ceiling desperately needs to be updated though.
Should have been much busier on a Saturday night than it was. Normally would give it 4* but they deserve a 5* shoutout and once the updates are complete, they will completely deserve one.

Great food and atmosphere i had the Buffalo ribs and they were great. They overcooked my wife’s steak but it had good flavor.

This is a small town so you can’t expect a 5 star restaurant. The place was very plain inside, maybe 12 tables, but the waitress is the only one there and works very hard. She waited on everyone as fast as she could. I would say the service was great, but not able to take her time to talk to us about possible hauntings or history in the building. The food was good. A good experience. Old building, historic town. Would come back.

Experience was horrible. Waitress had us grab our own menu and have us seat ourselves eventhough there was a sign that tells us to wait to be seated. There was no AC so we were sweating until our food came out. Waited 2 hours for our food but the food quality was bad! Meat was old, overcooked and the veggies tasted frozen. The portion was small! Save your money! Not worth your money or time!

I have spent half of my life, or 19 years, living and working in the area, and for some reason tonight was the first time I’ve been in this building. Despite fact it needs updated, and some renovation, the food was phenomenal. Salad bar was fresh, the prime rib was stellar! Came with two sides, plus a salad bar, and soup trip, all of the food was fresh and all homemade. Hidden surprise, despite the awkward setup and lack of promotion, this place shines if you give it a chance!

We went in and there’s no air conditioning it was about 80 degrees. I looked at the salad bar and everything looked like it was sitting in the heat all wilted. They must not have a board of health here. The waitress was doing her best. We ordered drinks but just couldn’t take the heat. I wasn’t going to order a $30 steak here. It was a real disappointment. We put some cash on the table for the drinks and got out as fast as we could

The waitress was very rude right from the moment we walked in and when I told her we had 5 children, she rolled her eyes and turned away my family and I for a sit down meal. When I inquired why, she raised her voice at me, in front of my children, and told me they couldn’t get anyone to work. I understand the employee shortage but to be rude to my family and I over their own sort staff problem is very off putting. The “service” at this establishment leaves much to be desired.

Overpriced and management is very unorganized and can be very rude. Food is a hit or miss. Sometimes the steak is cooked as requested, but the last few times I’ve ordered it has been overcooked. Salad bar has some homemade salads, but most of it is store-bought.

The whole town is over 100 years old so just remember that when you enter the historic building. No it’s not a pretty place and can feel kinda creepy or haunted but our waitress was awesome and the food was good. Our waitress even shared her favorite place to jump in the creek so we could check it out. People leaving bad reviews are expecting modern big city restaurants, this is a historic building and if you ask any of the staff they’ll tell you a bit of history about it. Kindness goes a long way! We were there on a Friday night during Sturgis weekend and had zero problems. It’s just old and outdated like everything else in town.
