Hometown Bakery is known for a friendly and fun atmosphere with an intoxicating smell of fresh baked goods when you enter the shop located in the South Shore Plaza of Vermilion. Delightful pastries, muffins, scones, cakes, cupcakes, cookies and brownies are baked daily on-site. The store also offers take home snacks, house made granola and lots of fresh salads. Business partner and head baker, Britney, describes the baked offerings as old-fashioned recipes inspired by her grandmother. The delicious array of zucchini, banana, lemon blueberry and apple pie breads will take you right back to mornings at grandma’s house! And don’t forget to grab Hometown Bakery’s famous Pepperoni Pull-apart bread or some outrageously tasty cookies.

We had our wedding cake done through here in last October, I have to say I was beyond unimpressed. The cake was drier than dry can be, not moist at all. We froze a small tier to have on our 1 year anniversary and it reminded me of how bad the cake really was. Which is is disappointing because a lot of their other goods are very good. But being it was my WEDDING cake I expected more.

I love Hometown Bakery! Everything is always so good I devour it before I think to take a picture. Half eaten cupcakes pictured below. I love the chicken salad, the chicken paprikash soup, the pepperoni rolls, and the cupcakes are amazing of course! Everything I have tried here has been phenomenal. There are lots of sweets and baked goods and just as many hearty salads and lunch options to choose from. There is so much to try – I recommend to just go there!

We stopped in here after a little thrifting & I am so glad we did! It’s a nice large shop with some local craft items for sale. Beyond that, your eyes are drawn to all of the amazing treats! There was delicious looking cafe food, salad, wraps, pasta salads, homemade chex mix and delicious treats! We kind of went wild! We grabbed a carrot cake slice, banana bread, zucchini bread, a rice krispy treat, and a pizza roll- and to eat there, we ordered an orange scone and two lattes. The owner (I believe) treated us to a complimentary pastry baked fresh and inspired by Europe! She was so kind & caring and you can tell she takes pride in learning new recipes and perfecting each item. It was amazing! The pistachio oatmilk latte was so smooth and my husband’s cafe mocha was perfect! The warmth and hospitality is unmatched. When we got home we indulged on the treats we bought and everything was perfectly made! Everything has that homemade taste instead of the mass produced taste we become so used to- it was an absolute treat! We will definitely be coming back!

I had the pleasure of enjoying a catered lunch with friends in Vermilion. The chicken salad on croissants were the best that I’ve ever had. The salads were excellent. There wasn’t anything that wasn’t tasty. Our dessert was a carrot cake and cookies. We had many excellent cooks, teachers, home economics instructors and well fed husbands among us who all raved about the cookies and lunch.Especially, the chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies. I especially liked the carrot cake.

We went in for the chicken paprikash soup and it was even better than we hoped for. Like your Hungarian grandma made it from scratch. Loaded with dumplings and big chunks of white and dark meat.
Also loved the brown butter rice krispy treats, homemade sourdough crackers, dirty martini dip, buckeye fudge, dill pickle pasta salad, and snack mix.
Will definitely go back next time we’re in town.
