I recently had a really pleasant evening at King Street Raj and thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish.

The food was excellent. In particular, the chicken chat stood out as a real highlight, full of flavour and beautifully balanced. The chicken dopiaza was another personal favourite, cooked perfectly with depth and richness that made it a proper comfort dish. Each course was fresh, well presented and clearly prepared with care.

The service matched the quality of the food. Daniela, Nabi and Romel were friendly, attentive and a real credit to the restaurant. They struck the right balance between being welcoming and professional, making the whole evening relaxed and enjoyable.

All in all, a great meal and a great atmosphere. I will definitely be back to sample more of the menu and enjoy this Indian cuisine again.

The food was fine. It wasn’t bad, but didn’t stand out as good. The price for the portion sizes is decent if you’re booking via FirstTable for 50% off food. However the service is really slow. It took 40 minutes for our starters to arrive and about an hour for our main entrees, despite the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty (3-4 tables of people).

The prawn puri starter was really good. I would get that again.

The mixed grill was fine. It was a bit dry/overcooked.

The chicken tikka biryani was good and had plenty of chicken. I liked the sauce with it.

Had the best Valentine’s date at this Bristol city centre gem. The service was quick and the waiting staff were lovely, plus the food was delicious and tasted really fresh. We loved the buzzy atmosphere and stained glass interiors. The paneer tikka Rogan Josh was a great veggie alternative. Would recommend for a date but you could definitely also bring a group❤️

Really great experience last night at King Street Raj through First Table. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was wonderful. Everything was explained clearly to us, and we were even given a breakdown of the costs to show how the 50% discount on food was calculated. I would go back here in a heartbeat, thought it was wonderful – thank you!!

Booked a table online and we were greeted at the door. Two men were serving us for the night and were very helpful in giving recommendations (as the menu was huge)! We had a range of curry mains from vegan to chicken as well as onion bhaji and samosas for starters. Every item was spot on and we got to take some home as well didn’t expect so much to come. The atmosphere was nice (incense, candles and warm lighting). Also had some nice extra touches with a coat rack to hang coats at the door and a chocolate when we left. Really recommend and would definitely go again!

Absolutely brilliant service and delicious food! All of the staff were so friendly and attentive all evening.
The VEGAN OPTIONS seemed never-ending. They had a dedicated menu with an alternative available for all of the meat and dairy items – they even had a vegan version of the complimentary post-meal chocolate!
We really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor – very cozy, warm and welcoming.

Highly highly highly recommend. Thank you King Street Raj for a lovely evening.

Visited first time for a birthday party in December 2025. What stood out to me was the choice in vegan curries. I had a ‘chicken’ madras which was second to none- spicy and tasty with heaps of textured protein . Fab rice, naan, and a side of daal. All of my friends hugely enjoyed their curries too … and excellent service with great attention to service. Great location too. The best choice for a city centre curry IMHO

We spent a night in Bristol and needed somewhere to eat late and this was an option. The food was great. I could taste the individual spices. It was authentic food but the toilets were also authentic and reminded me of India. When I am back in Bristol I will visit the restaurant again. Thanks for the food and service.

The Raj is as good as can be without being fully vegan. On arrival they ask about allergies and dietary preferences. I said I’m vegan so they brought me a dedicated vegan menu. It says clearly that margarine is used instead of butter and that vegan dishes are cooked separately. There are tofu, vegetable and fake meat dishes: soya chicken, “beef” strips or Quorn chicken with the last two being a couple of pounds extra.
We ordered poppadoms and they brought out a vegan mint sauce for me as well as the standard one for my non-vegan son without asking. The server points out exactly what is vegan and what is not. The curry, rice and side dish are delicious. I’ve been a curry lover for years and the food was what I call a proper curry: tasty, spicy and generous portions. And it’s all really good value for money. We paid £60 including £5 tip for 2 poppadoms and chutney tray, chicken Lucknow pasanda, “chicken” madras, mushroom pilau, special pilau, peshwari naan, saag aloo, a pint of kingfisher and a pint of lemonade. They even gave us a vegan chocolate and a dairy chocolate when we paid the bill. Such outstanding attention to detail deserves recognition and really made my night. One very happy vegan here 🙂
