We had a wonderful time celebrating Chinese new year. Plenty of room for a table of 9. Reservation definitely recommended for a larger group. The food was amazing. The crab was fresh and done in their special sauce, delicious. The fish was light and flaky . Veggies could be cooked a bit more (crunchy) but still good. Walnut shrimp was light and flavorful. Nothing was bad. Plus an added bonus of lion dance and blessing for the holiday.

Hounded me for a tip like 6 times even before my wife and I got our food. Never have I ever experience that rude behavior before at a restaurant. Tips are earned based on service not just given to you. Only checked on us once when we were done. Food presentation was good but the taste was just ok, not worth the price tbh. No refills on the mango tea which is cheap to make so makes no sense but was good. There was a bird flying around the dining room. The staff didn’t seem bothered by it. Probably wouldn’t recommend eating here at least with our experience.

We celebrated a birthday coming here. Make sure to make reservations because it gets busy. We tried their Taishan Live Crab ans it was totally worth it. After our dinner they even gave us complimenary dessert for our celebrant.

Good location, luxury area in the center of Waikiki Beach, a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant, chicken dumplings have a fishy smell, chicken claws are good, mustard greens are good, skewered sausage is good
Environment: Good
Price-to-value ratio: poor
Taste: Yes

We were a party of three when we went for dinner. The food was good. However, the bill came with 18% tips included. Would we have given 18%? Yes. But why would you include it for a party of three? Moreover, when we were on the way out, another waitress came to us for signature on the bill and asked for tips again. Good thing we kept the original receipt to show that the tips have been included.

We stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani in Waikiki, so Kirin restaurant is very close by. They have great food! We loved it, and the staff were wonderful! Qin was our sever and she was very sweet. We had Jellyfish, fried scallop, crab, and duck, and not one thing was left on our plates. I’m not a cook or Chinese so I’m not a pro on what authentic is, but this was great food. We will be back for sure on our next visit.

It is a typical greasy Chinese American restaurant. The menu is mixed with traditional dishes that seemed nice, however, ours were on par with any old joint. It’s slow service so be ready. Also the men’s restroom backed up and sewage came up the floor drain and despite cleaning, sludge was still on the ground along with brown water. It’s moderately clean, just don’t look at surfaces and corners. We felt gut bombed afterwards…then heartburn hours later. Cannot recommend.

Everything we got was delicious! Service was great, food was great quality, and location is awesome. Right outside the Hyatt regency and it’s downstairs. We even came back a second time to get the honey walnut shrimp that’s to die for. Highly recommend.

We were on a staycation and having walked most of the day we decided to just eat at the hotel. I haven’t had Chinese food in many years so was anticipating an enjoyable meal. Yelp reviews were great and given that many celebrities have dined here, we gave it a try.
We arrived on a Sunday night around 8:30 PM. As we looked around it looked predominantly of Chinese customers. As soon as we sat down we were given forks. We are part Asian and use chopsticks fully.
We ordered the honey walnut shrimp which I wish to love but it was heavy on the mayonnaise. The Mr. ordered the beef special and said there was less beef and too much vegetables. The dim sum was OK.
Service was mediocre for the restaurant being fairly empty given it was later in the night.
Was the food horrible? No. Did I expect more? Yes. Overall, it was just an OK meal for the prices that are placed.

Kirin’s Seafood – 3 Stars

Let’s start with the obvious: it’s pricey. My solo lunch ended up totaling around $180 with gratuity, which felt steep—especially for a midday bite. That said, if you’re coming here, the Dungeness crab is a must. They only had larger sizes available when I visited (about 3 lbs), which ran me $107, but the crab was fresh, flavorful, and definitely a highlight.

I also tried the spring rolls—crispy, hot, and well-fried, but not exactly unforgettable. The seafood fried rice was solid, but I really wish they offered half portions. As a solo diner, it felt wasteful to leave so much behind when the dish only came in one large size.

The atmosphere is old-school and authentic. You can tell it’s a local staple from the steady flow of guests. However, the vibe didn’t quite match the price point. Service was polite but impersonal, with a shared approach among staff that kept things moving, though it lacked a personal touch.

All in all, I’m glad I tried it. The crab was worth the splurge, but I wouldn’t rank this among my top 10 spots. I could see it being a fun spot to visit with friends when you’re craving crab—but for me, it’s a been-there-done-that type of stop.
