Ordered the egg breakfast with sausage and a side of the biscuit & gravy. Hubs had the guacamole burger with coleslaw. Everything was delicious. Burger bun was very light compared to some dense burger buns. Sausage had a good flavor and the potatoes were thinly sliced – hint of rosemary. Gravy was a little cold unfortunately but good flavor. Couldn’t eat everything – a lot of food. Would definitely come back and bring family here.
Corn beef hash, where I always start, may have been the best ever. I had to ask our phenom server if the owner was cooking, because someone really cared about the food. They rye toast and potatoes make my meal perfect.
My mates had the Benedict. Why? Because our server said – “May be the best Benedict I’ve ever found.” Well, both parties, older than 50 and well-traveled said, “I think she’s right.”
Lastly, the quiche, home run.
Dang, the coffee black was even good.
I love First and Union Kitchen and you will too. I’m going back and having everything on the menu. This place is remarkable.
Check out the photos and video!
There are two skinny (old-looking) waitresses who are usually inattentive, distracted, condescending and generally do not care about the guests. These two would stand and chat and ignore us to avoid getting called over. I’ve been here enough times to verify that this is how they are. I understand that this place can get really busy but that’s not always the reason we get ignored. I love to support local businesses but ones that value their customers.
The only waitress who actually the best here is a Hispanic lady.
I hope these two don’t work here so that I can come back but I’m sure that won’t be the case since people around me had a same experience.
Edits: just look at other negatives reviews. There’s a reason this place is rated so low.
We had brunch and I was worried the coffee would be your typical weak diner drip coffee – no way! It was excellent!
I had the salmon eggs Benedict and friend has the mixed with two eggs, meat and pancake. His maple syrup came hot! The ham was a long, thin, narrow perfectly cooked and delicious. I had to try it.
Potatoes freshly cut thin with rosemary. No need for ketchup on those!
Price seems expensive at first sight, and I’ll say it isn’t cheap, but you get quality! So expect to pay around $50 with tip for two.
I will certainly be back!
We had the quiche selection of the day which was broccoli and asparagus. It was good but it wasn’t my favorite combination for quiche. We did ask our server for the day’s selection and it did sound good but those flavors didn’t work for me. You may not those flavor profiles. Be sure to ask for the ingredients before ordering the quiche.
We also had Challah French Toast. It was served with an orange compound butter and syrup which was a great combination. The homemade lemonade was very refreshing!
The restaurant has a very cozy atmosphere inside and there were nice seating areas outside as well. Everything look well organized and clean. The server was very nice and attentive.
She refused to tell me before that she would indeed still be charging me for the food she had taken back. She waited until she gave me the check to see if I noticed it or not.
