We loved this place! Eric was our waiter, and he was an absolute delight and made us feel right at home. The food was excellent, I strongly recommend the fish tacos. The prices for a vacation spot were more than reasonable, and the portions were generous without being too much. Each individual taco was hand crafted with fresh ingredients. Luis, the manager, made great recommendations and made sure we felt like valued customers even though it was our first time in. If you are looking for a friendly atmosphere, great food, and affordable prices, Taco Libre is the place for you.

The overall experience was uncomfortable due to the service. From the moment we arrived, it felt as though the staff had no interest in helping us or making us feel welcome. Interactions were minimal and gave the impression that our presence was an inconvenience rather than appreciated. While the food did arrive hot and was fairly decent in quality, it wasn’t enough to offset the atmosphere. Dining somewhere where you feel unwelcome makes it difficult to enjoy the meal, and unfortunately that feeling lingered throughout our visit.

We stopped into Taco Libre on a Friday night and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The DJ was playing and sitting at the bar seemed like the right idea. Unfortunately, the service at the bar was a huge letdown. The bartender was the only one working and clearly overwhelmed, but instead of just being busy, he came off dramatic, dismissive, and borderline rude when we asked for a simple cocktail refill.
Food was hit or miss. The shrimp ceviche was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. The surf and turf tacos with steak and shrimp were also delicious. On the other hand, the American-style ground beef tacos were painfully dry, almost like powdered beef, and we couldn’t even finish them. The biggest disappointment of the night was the Mexican street corn bowl. It tasted straight up like canned corn with some cheap cream and cheese thrown on top. It was definitely not fresh and it really cheapened the whole dish.
Overall, the vibe was fun and parts of the food were solid, but between the uneven quality of the dishes and a bartender who made the whole experience unpleasant, it is not a spot I would rush back to.

Great taco joint. Love that you could order tacos by the “unit” or in 3s. Prices were decent too and the really fill up the tacos.

During a recent visit, a female guest in our party was approached by a member of the bar staff and subjected to an unsolicited and inappropriate comment about her body.
There was no safety concern. There was no discretion. It was simply unnecessary and unprofessional.
When the issue was brought to management, we were informed that this employee has behaved similarly in the past.
That response was more concerning than the comment itself.
In a city built on hospitality and tourism, guests — especially women — should not have to wonder whether staff will feel entitled to comment on their bodies while they are trying to enjoy dinner.
A pattern of behavior that is known to management and allowed to continue is not a minor oversight. It reflects a cultural problem.
We hope ownership takes this seriously. Situations like this do not stay contained for long in a community like St. Augustine.
We will not be returning.

My wife and some friends came for a celebration dinner. They were hoping for good food, good drinks, and good memories. Unfortunately what they got was sexual harassment.
The bartender (who according to many other reviews is an ongoing problem) came over to their table and made a wildly inappropriate comment to a member of their party about her body.
Given the numerous previous reviews about this individual, it is obvious that this kind of behavior is acceptable here and it’s clear that neither management nor ownership are concerned about the safety of women in their establishment. If it wasn’t, he’d have already been fired. They’re just lucky they haven’t been sued yet….
Don’t bother with this place. It’s not worth the risk.

Monday trivia night is the icing on the cake. Staff is so nice and attentive. Portions are big and tasty. The guacamole and the salsa and chips are a great start. The tacos are loaded and you’ll be hard to find any extra plate space for the other entrées.

We vacationed to St.Augustine for my birthday weekend and I have to say all of the food to the places people recommend or that were really popular were incredibly disappointing. I was over all the touristy places and we decided to try this place which was right by the house we were staying at. It was probably the best food we had in St.Augustine!! The atmosphere is really neat, the margaritas are huge and refreshing and the staff was very polite and pleasant.
