Location is honestly the only redeeming thing about this place. Right on Crescent Beach with a cute little patio overlooking the water ☀️ Perfect vibes if you just want to sit outside.

But the food… yikes. Ordered the calamari takeout and paid $22 for what was basically a box of deep-fried crumbs. Maybe 3 actual pieces of calamari hiding in there The “salad” at the bottom was actually the best part of the meal, which says a lot.

Service was fine, but for the price and quality, it just doesn’t add up. Willing to give it another try (location is that good), but first impression? Not it.

Surprised by the fine taste of the white chowder rich with seafood!! The cod fish and chips had fair amounts of batter and were served with excellent fries and a generous amount of coleslaw. All that on a patio with ocean views and a blue sky…nice!!

We visited on Sunday afternoon and unfortunately had a disappointing experience due to the service.

There were two servers working. One of them was quite rude from the start. It was very windy outside and the indoor seating area was almost completely empty, but when we asked if we could sit inside, she said the table had already been given to someone else. This was confusing because there were several empty tables available.

When we eventually moved inside, the table hadn’t even been cleaned. We had to ask the other server for help, and thankfully she stepped in and took over.

As customers, if we’re feeling uncomfortable outside and make a simple request—especially when space is available—we expect a reasonable level of accommodation and courtesy. Unfortunately, the interaction with the first server felt dismissive and unpleasant. The server seemed rude to other guests as well.

Fish and chips were okay but the tacos weren’t good.

Because of this experience, we likely won’t be returning.

It was okay. The staff were great, the view is literally the beach and can watch the sunset from their patio.

The drinks and food could be better. The price didn’t reflect the quality of the food and drinks.
Calamari (something was off about it) and fries (a bit bland) could be crispier, onion rings were great/portion was good as a side dish, but I really enjoyed my po boy the Cole slaw was very tasty.
Drinks could do better.
Definitely coming back for that scallop po boy!

Location & Ambience

Hooked Fish Bar enjoys a stellar spot directly on Crescent Beach, offering panoramic views over the water and nearby Gulf Islands. Its wraparound deck and beachfront patio make it ideal for people-watching, bird spotting, and just soaking in the coastal vibe . The casual, surf‑vibes décor—with metal tables and ocean-tone accents—fits the laid-back beach aesthetic perfectly .

History & Local Favorite

Since opening in the summer of 2011, Hooked Fish Bar has become a beloved fixture for both locals and visitors at Crescent Beach . With over 1,100 reviews and a “very good” average rating, many consider it their go-to spot by the sea .

Food Highlights
• Fish & Chips: Often praised as “fantastic” and “not heavy and greasy,” the fish comes enrobed in light, puffy batter while remaining flaky and buttery inside .
• A Facebook review calls the cod “a good sized piece, fresh, and cooked perfectly with a light batter” alongside equally solid fries .
• A TikTok-based description sums it up nicely: “Their fish and chips strike the perfect…” vibe for coastal dining .
• The menu isn’t limited to fish & chips—expect fish tacos, chowder, burgers, and other seaside favorites .

Service & Atmosphere

Reviews often commend the friendly, helpful staff and the fun, casual atmosphere. It’s a place where the laid-back service matches the relaxed location .

Points of Critique

Not all feedback is glowing. Some guests feel that the prices are a tad high, and a few describe the food as merely “mediocre” or “overpriced” for what’s served . There are occasional remarks of disappointing visits, albeit less common .

Great little spot for fish and chips at one of these best beaches in the lower mainland. Went here on a Saturday night and was surprised no wait for a patio seat right overlooking the ocean and seawall. Went only had beer and fish and chips so can’t say what other food here is like but ours was great. Batter was crispy but not too thick. Fish portion was good with a good amount of fries and a side of coleslaw.

Hooked Fish Bar in White Rock delivered an exceptional seaside dining experience. We started with crispy *Taro Chips* served with fresh salsa and guacamole—a unique twist that set the tone for the meal. The *Fish and Chips* were perfectly golden, with flaky fish inside and fries that hit the spot. The *Seafood Chowder* was rich and creamy, packed with fresh, tender seafood that warmed the soul. To top it off, the *Calamari* was light, crispy, and seasoned just right. With ocean views and fantastic food, Hooked Fish Bar is a must-visit for seafood lovers!

Great location, service was friendly and courteous, fish taco’s were ok. No heat in building which makes it a little crisp in the winter months.

I was having a fish & chips craving, so my husband took me to Crescent Beach for a cute lunch date and we ended up going into Hooked Fish Bar because of the location, which was perfect as it overlooked the water.

It was a Saturday early afternoon and we sat outside on their patio which most of the customers were since it was a beautiful afternoon. The person who sat us wasn’t the most friendly staff, but luckily the server we had was very polite and sweet.

We ordered two beers, the Fish & Chips, I had the one piece and my husband had two. Our drinks came quickly and by the time I had a few sips, our food was already at our table, so the wait time was not long at all.

The food looked good, but the tartar sauce lacked flavor and could have used a bit more help in the relish and lemon department. The coleslaw was also nothing to be excited about as well; the lack of flavor was the missing component to the entire dish. It wasn’t terrible, but it also also wasn’t great.
The positive side was the fries were delicious and the fish did have a nice amount of batter to it, ratio and color wise.

The food was a bit pricey for the amount you get – for 2 beers and fish & chips, the price was $65, which seemed a bit steep for what we got; I guess that the price you pay for the view.

All in all, the view and service was great.

Iconic location. I’ve been here many times always a great meal. If you are in Crescent Beach looking for a great meal with incredible views, this is a must see. The codfish and chips are excellent. The daiquiri special is spectacular for only $10. I highly recommend..
