We’ve spent many enjoyable mornings out at Kim’s with delicious pastries and French press coffee.
For our daughter’s birthday, we reached out to see if Kim could make the cake. She exceeded our expectations with the most delicious and beautiful cake for such a reasonable price. This is the only place we’ll be buying birthday cakes from here on out! Thank you so much, Kim!

Had an amazing birthday cake custom ordered for my son’s pirate party and it was better than I could have hoped for! Kim advised and made suggestions on everything from look to flavor and we had the tastiest, most beautiful cake fit for dozens of excited guests!
I’m super impressed with everything about my experience (first time I ordered a cake for a party like this). Absolutely will order again and rave about it!

We just moved to the area and have been to Kim’s Bake Shop a few times now. It has now become a staple in our house! Our little ones love when we go. The food is always delicious, including their gluten free options. I can’t even tell they are gluten free and are so good. Plus, their French press coffee is the absolute best! The staff has always been very friendly when we have gone in as well! So happy we found an amazing bakery

I adore baking at home which is why I didn’t go into Kim’s Bake Shop at all, for years. But, OMG she knows how to bake! I have never tasted cookies or donuts made by a bakery that are as delicious as hers. Just for context, I’ve been to excellent bakeries in all the major cities in Europe, Canada, the U.S. My reason for posting is that I was invited to a toddler birthday party and was delighted by the adorable woodland fairy cake – flowers, mushrooms, magical looking wooden door, and astounded by the luscious taste. Kim baked it! My pictures cannot do it justice but here they are

This place never disappoints! The coffee is great, pastry selection is incredible, and it all is so meticulous and perfect. Mixed in with the ‘local’ vibe the Nickel gives off next door, this is the place! Whether you sit with a French press and a fresh danish, or take a dozen donuts to go.

Wedding Cake
Delicious! We allowed the baker creative license in style with our color choices, the results were in the newer method of spoon sculpting. She did not disappoint. They also coordinated with the venue for delivery and set up.

A required staple in every small town’s downtown. A quaint, reliable, well crafted coffee shop. I was in Hillsborough for work and needed to hop on the WiFi to take care of some calls and emails. Walking in, it feels like it should with the smells of the bakery and espresso – the new pieces matching the old architecture. A young lady with a local college sweatshirt on behind the counter kindly waits for you to order anything from a french-press to the scratch made tarts. Not to mention that it’s conjoined with a bottle shop and meat market. I was able to eat a little bite and have some incredible coffee, then turn around and grab some donuts for the next morning, a craft beer 4-pack, and a couple packages of farm raised beef for the weekend on my way out. Honestly, it is not far off of 85 and well worth the stop even if you had no business being in Hillsborough. Thank you Kim’s for setting the standard and even raising the bar when it comes to local coffee shops. Every town needs one!

Got the French press coffee and the fruity pebble doughnut. One of the best doughnuts I’ve EVER had! It had the texture of a cake doughnut but not too heavy with a perfect slight crisp on the outside. There was no glaze (I prefer this to keep it from being too sweet) but the icing was the perfect amount and had just enough fruity pebbles on top. They also have an apple cider one that I think would just be divine. The staff was so kind and took the time to explain everything. The coffee comes with a timer to let you know how long before you should pour it. It didn’t have a burnt or too acidic taste. I really enjoyed that each cup was fresh just for you. I took mine to go today but the atmosphere was nice and can’t wait to come back and enjoy it when I have more time. They also had a gluten free muffin and granola.

Fantastic locally owned pastries, quiches and coffee. Great folks, great food, and one of the only places open downtown on Mondays. They’ve always got a quiche and it’s almost always got a vegetarian option too.
You can also pick up beer to go!

Was hiking with friends at the Hillsborough River Walk on Saturday morning and decided we needed coffee and a nibble afterwards. We’re big Wooden Nickel fans so we decided to give Kim’s Bake Shop a try. Loved it! Great location (next to WN) and, since the weather was perfect that morning… the outside seating was a great option (plus we had our dog with us). The inside seating looked warm and inviting and might be the perfect place next time we hike in colder weather (or if it is raining).
French Press local coffee was pretty good (although a bit on the weak side). The multi berry scone was quite tasty, but a bit too crumbly for a scone. The other two folks got the quiche w/ bacon and said it was really, really good.
We will be back.
