As someone who truly appreciates great food, I don’t say this lightly — this is one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Iowa.
The seafood pasta was beautifully balanced, rich yet refined. The meatballs were deeply flavorful and perfectly executed. The arancini had that ideal crisp exterior with a soft, savory center. And the cheesecake was exceptional — smooth, delicate, and absolutely memorable.
What impressed me most was the consistency and attention to detail. Nothing felt rushed. Every plate showed care and intention.
This is the kind of place that raises the standard for dining in Ankeny.
A true 5-star experience.

We came here on grandmas reccomendation so we had high expectations and Bonfire did not at all disappoint! Sebastion gave us a service that was only matched by the night we got married on Cocoa Beach at Gregory’s Steakhouse in Florida, so the experience at Bonfire brought those memories up and gave us new memories to cherish forever. I had the Chicken Picatta and my wife had the Chicken Parm. Both dishes were incredibly delicious. The foccacia bread they open up with is paired with a house made olive tapanade and is also incredibly memorable. We also had the Sicilian Arancini; a breaded rissoto, beef and cheese appetizer on Sebastions suggestion and it was a fantastic medly of individual flavors, textures and visual appeal. It was also “happy hour,” so wine and beer was half off. I had a glass of the house Cabernet (splendidly smooth,) and a second glass of my waiters choice since it was obvious I could trust him. We took home some Lemocello for desert that I have not tried yet but I am sure is absolutely perfect. Thank you to the entire team at Bonfire, from the waiters, to the very talented chef, and to Samuel (the manager) who came by to talk with us at the end of service. The experience could not have been any better. Don’t change a single thing!

We loved this restaurant! It has a wonderful laid back vibe and beautiful decor. The food is amazing! My husband got a well done stake and the flavor was delicious and the texture was still nice and tender. I got the Alfredo pasta and they were so kind to add broccoli to it! They’re customer service is amazing everyone is so nice and they even offered a fun Polaroid picture of us to celebrate Valentines Day.

We had such a wonderful experience at Bonfire in Ankeny! My husband, our two kids, and I stopped in for dinner and everything was absolutely fantastic. They started us with warm bread and a oil based dipping which was delicious! We ordered the Chicken Martini and the Bonfire Spaghetti, and both dishes were bursting with flavor — perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection.

The service was excellent from start to finish. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. We also tried the House Margarita and their Seasonal Beer, both of which paired perfectly with our meal.

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it a great spot for both families and date nights. We’ll definitely be coming back soon — highly recommend Bonfire if you’re looking for great food and great service in Ankeny!

Such a great experience at Bonfire and Bar Restaurant in Ankeny! The food was so good — everything we ordered was delicious. I had a penne vodka which was so refreshing, and later an espresso martini that was perfect — smooth, strong, and full of flavor. . The people I went with ordered different dishes like salmon, ravioli, and a meat plate, and everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was really nice too. Definitely a spot I’d come back to!

Look I finished all my food which I usually don’t do when I go out! I was so full! Portions are more than enough which was wonderful and N/A drinks were so good! I have to try out the bar next time ☺️

Food was amazing! Got the chicken parm and I was super impressed with everything. Our server Natasha was A+! Not sure what’s in the bread but it’s dangerously addictive along with the oil. Murals on the walls and atmosphere had me thinking it would be perfect for a date night out. Highly recommend.

Decided to try bonfire tonight. The parking lot was completely full but they had tables open. It was ladies night so everyone must have arrived their own car. We were seated quickly. The sound was overwhelming we could hardly hear each other. Our conversation ended because it turnef out to be all “what did you say?” Maybe another night would have been better. It took ten minutes for the waiter to arrive. He brought us some bread and oil mixture. It was tasty if a bit to spicy for my wife. The menu is very limited with not many choices. When the waiter came back we ordered. My wife got the chicken Parmesan and I ordered the bonfire spaghetti. One thing I noticed the water tasted very musky so we ordered soft drinks. They were good. About twenty minutes later our food arrived. It was very hot. But unlike most Italian places no parmesan was offered and the table had no salt and pepper shakers. My pasta was very hot the sauce while not much of it had a good flavor and the chicken sausage was very good. The chicken chunks while plentiful were large but not spiced and we’re actually very dry. The spaghetti was okay but not home made. My wife’s chicken Parmesan was very flat and tough. It was on a tiny bit of spaghetti which disappointed my wife. The meals did not come with soup or salad or anything so it wasn’t a very good value. The food was okay but the noise was unbearable and the value was just not there. We will give it another shot in case this was a bad night. But we were disappointed. Also the chairs were incredibly uncomfortable.

I don’t recall any time in my life that I have taken the time to leave a review for anything let alone a restaurant. I felt compelled to give one for Bonfire because this was by FAR the best Italian food I have ever had. From the appetizers all the way to the desserts it was excellence. The staff truly cares about providing a great experience and the atmosphere has a great energy to it! Will definitely be back to support a top notch local business!
