Had this place marked on my map but I don’t remember why. Since I happened to be in Chicago I decided to check it out.
I didn’t know what to expect but with a menu that is heavy in Italian style sandwiches I figured I couldn’t go wrong. I ordered the Italian with hot peppers and wasn’t disappointed. The bread was the right kind of chewy, the toppings in the 3 kinds of meat were well balanced and held in place perfectly while I ate.
Highly recommend this location for service and quality.

Came here chasing a childhood memory.
My dad used to take me to a corned beef sub spot in little Italy dont remember exactly where it was was told it closed.
Was told this might be it or the the last one standing in chicago so I had to check it out.
Not toasted like I remember, but heated up.
Ordered a “12-inch” (more like 11 ), but it was LOADED with meat.
Only ate half and was full.
Place stayed busy the entire time. That says everything.

I stopped eating Subway brand sandwiches once the tuna issue came about. So, I tried Fontano’s. I bought a couple of meat sandwiches, their names escape me, but I really wanted to enjoy them. So, I get home, cut each one in half so I can enjoy both. While eating, all I tasted was the heavy dosage of relishes that were applied to the sandwiches. Later, I ate the other halves with removal of most the relishes. The meat was more dominant. Initially it was like a relish sandwich. The meat is supposed to be the star of a meat sandwich. I had to make the product stand out, which is not what I paid for.

I’ll start off by saying this, go if you’re hungry. The subs at Fontano’s will fill you up. Sandwiches are prepared after you order, and they do load it up. The 10″ Turkey sub, with everything, works well for me. Food comes out pretty quick too. Parking can be tricky because you cant use the lot next to the building…

So I’m a regular customer at the Fontano’s in Evergreen for years!
However, today ( September 23rd 2025) I got the WORST service EVER by the little short woman that opened, I cld tell that she was fussing in her native language about something and my sandwich paid the price. I had to go back inside and request the same ingredients be added that I asked for at the beginning when I ordered.
Again, we all have Bad days, and usually their service is good and their sandwiches, I’m only doing this review in hopes that when Fontano reads this “ Hopefully “ she will stay home the next time she’s not feeling it””!
It’s just not fair to the loyal customers my sandwich was missing SEVERAL ingredients not just 1

Haven’t eaten it yet but it looks and smells delicious , I got the 12’ turkey breast with all the fixings… the ladies were very nice and prompt with my order as well. I will be returning soon

Omg!! I’ve passed this place for YEARS, and finally decided to try it not too long ago…. Addicted!!! It’s so good! If you go here, it’s hard to enjoy a sandwich anywhere else. This is by far my favorite sub place.. especially if you like hoagies. They don’t sell hoagies but their sandwiches are seasoned so well, they put you in mind of them. 10/10! I love them! They have great soups too, and the prices are good.
