Dining at Aqua Kyoto was an absolute highlight of my trip to New York. The moment you step in, you feel the calm elegance of the space—stylish, modern, and refined without being stuffy. It’s a beautiful escape from the chaos of the city.

The food was exceptional. The Japanese menu is thoughtfully curated, with dishes that are both beautifully presented and full of flavour. Every bite felt clean, balanced, and precise—exactly what you want from high-end Japanese dining. The sushi and sashimi were incredibly fresh, and the cooked dishes were just as impressive, showing real depth and technique.

What stood out most was the consistency. Every dish arrived perfectly timed, perfectly plated, and tasted just as good as it looked. You can tell the kitchen operates at a very high standard.

Service was polished and attentive without hovering. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to make recommendations, which really elevated the experience. Drinks were also excellent—refined, well-balanced, and a great match for the food.

If you’re after an elegant Japanese dining experience in New York with amazing food, atmosphere, and service, Aqua Kyoto is well worth a visit. I’d happily return.

Walked in here after a horrible experience with a canceled Valentine’s Day reservation at another restaurant. We were happy and relieved to find a seat at the bar right away despite the restaurant being booked with Valentine’s reservations. The bartender let us know when we sat down that there was 10 minutes left on happy hour and alerted us to their great happy hour special (a signature cocktail and an appetizer for $20). We got the lychee martini, karaage chicken, and waygu sandwich to start. It was all so good we decided to just stay and enjoy our Valentine’s Day dinner at the bar. We were able to order their full Valentine’s menu at the bar and we tried food from both restaurants (Kyoto and Roma). We had sushi and pizzas, all delicious. The fish was fresh and high quality and the pizza dough was out of this world. Each cocktail was unique and flavorful. The service was great – the bartender was friendly and attentive and they let us sit at the bar for 4 or 5 hours and never made us feel rushed. This was a really great find and saved our Valentine’s Day! We’ll definitely be returning.

Had a wonderful birthday brunch here. The space is beautiful. We had a 2pm seating which was perfect for us. There’s a $58 prefix brunch menu that included 3 appetizers, Omakase, a choice of a main and a assortment of desserts. It was more than enough food and so worth it. The only catch is that the entire table has to do it. You can add another $39 for 90 min bottomless of prosecco, wine, beer and aperol spritz which was more than enough. There’s a premium bottomless for all other cocktails for $98. The rock shrimp app was delicious, we were obsessed with the aioli that it came with. The truffle rice ball and crostini were also good. We tried the ribeye and eggs, oxtail pasta, and wagyu burger. We loved the Omakase display. For all the apps, they made enough food so everyone could have one of everything (minus the rock shrimp which were all cut up into many pieces). All of it was good. The pasta looks like its a small portion but it is very heavy and it was more than enough food. The dessert was mochi, espresso and chocolate mousse with tapioca to look like caviar, lemon mousse and cake shaped in a lemon chocolate shell, and fruit all beautifully displayed. We did do the regular bottomless and found the waiter attentive, making sure our glasses were always filled. Overall it was very good and would come back.

Do not be fooled by whoever is writing a positive review. From a New Yorker who frequently dines out- there are much better places to spend your money. The moment we stepped into Aqua Kyoto, there was nothing but confusion surrounding our seating request. I still don’t know where the breakdown occurred—between the manager, the hostess, and our server—but it was never resolved at the start, which set the tone for the entire meal. Toward the end, we were told we could have moved all along, making the earlier refusal even more frustrating.

We were seated at the counter, forced to look at cardboard boxes while eating a $100-per-person meal—completely appalling and ambiance-ruining. While the food may look presentable, the taste is underwhelming and absolutely not worth the price. There is nothing memorable or special here. Save your money—there are far better places to eat with better service, better atmosphere, and better food.

Hands down my boyfriend and I’s favorite spot. We have celebrated anniversary’s, birthdays, and random Tuesdays. Cannot go wrong with this spot. Plus the DJ is always incredible.

The ambience and intimacy of Aqua Kyoto transports you to Japan for a moment and makes the feeling linger with each course. The sashimi and sushi selection was very impressive without being overwhelming. The chefs clearly take great pride in their work, will absolutely be visiting again.

What a great addition to Flatiron District! This restaurant definitely surpassed mine expectations. From fresh and delicious seafood dishes to chic and modern decor, and superior service – everything was what I would expect from a great restaurant and more! Can’t wait to go back and check out their Italian side

I hadn’t literally made reservations for a nice table/ booth, and I asked them to make it special because I had just proposed for my fiancé. I’m literally waiting 10 minutes To check in. They finally sent me down at such a bad crowded table. I was so upset the service is horrible. They don’t wanna accommodate anything. This was a very special day for me and they’ve ruined it. I wouldn’t not recommend this place for anybody to come, especially for a special event.. Thanks for ruining my special night

On December 1, 2025, I had reservations for this restaurant. My first experience with the hospitality hostess was very very bad when I walked into the place. It was empty and they made us stand at the bar which took about 15 minutes after reapproaching the hostess and asking when can we be seated She told me to give her a minute. After an additional 10 minutes, they finally seated me and my guest. Never once did the hostess apologize for the wait and she also had a nasty attitude. The food at the establishment was very good, except for the Wagyu steak. Next my guest ordered Moet champagne and then asked for a glass of orange juice, which they then stated we do not have orange juice for tonight on top of all of this bread wasn’t brought out to the table until after the meal. Me and my guest were very unhappy with The hospitality of this place. They treated us very bad. So my final review of this place is as follows. Food was OK. Service really sucked. The atmosphere is on point. Now I want to clarify one more point the waitress who handled my table was excellent, but as far as any of the other hostess, and I guess the manager of the place They sucked

I was immediately greeted upon arrival and the space itself is absolutely stunning! It made the entire experience feel special from the moment you walk in.

We started with the edamame sprinkled with maldon sea salt, which was very nice. The highlight of the evening was the Aqua Kyoto Omakase Sashimi and the Omakase Sushi & Sashimi Platter. Each piece was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented.

For cocktails I tried the Kyoto Martini (Roku gin, Junmai sake, Cocchi dry, and mirin), and it was the best martini I’ve ever had! Very balanced, smooth, and unique.

Will definitely be back. Thank you guys!
