While visiting NYC for the Christmas holiday, the front desk employee at our hotel recommended this restaurant for us to eat breakfast. She was correct when she said it was a great restaurant and that we would love it. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. My eggs and bacon were cooked just as I asked. The service was amazing and great calm atmosphere. Will definitely eat here again the next time I’m in NYC!!!!

This diner was great. We went for Saturday brunch and it was packed, but we were seated fairly quickly. We ordered an omelette and a chicken caesar wrap—both were excellent. The omelette was huge, the fries were fresh, and we left very full and happy. Would definitely come back.

My wife and I went to the Madison again for breakfast. We have been there many times over the years. We ordered an omelette and pancakes. Both were very good. But beware! The portions are huge. Service was fine and the booths are good except that they seem to be very tight in sitting space. A large person probably would be very comfortable in that tight space.
Big spacious diner and seating outside as well.

Classic American restaurant. Food was good, lunch menu is affordable and has bunch of options. Don’t expect much. Service and attention could have been better. It has a nice outside availability.

Prices seem high but portions are so large they can be shared unless you have a huge appetite. Consistency of food is not predictable but is generally pretty good. Service is generally good. Restrooms resli need remodeling.

Madison Diner has completely lost the standard of quality and respect it once had for its customers. They don’t deserve even one star based on my recent experiences.
I lived in the area from 1997–2006 and ordered from this diner regularly. Back then, it was reliable and enjoyable. I recently moved back in 2025 and was shocked at how far downhill it has gone.
There is always something wrong with my order. The salads are wilted, soggy, and clearly old. The food is bland and flavorless, or over-salted and not edible. On top of that, hen mistakes are made, the staff tends to shift the blame onto the customer instead of taking responsibility. Rather than trying to improve or make things right, they are fine losing a customer.
The final straw for me was finding a roach in the coleslaw.
Sadly, this place is no longer what it once was, and I will not be returning or ordering from them again.

I live in the neighborhood for more than 20 years. The ingredients always fresh, the portions fair , service is excellent.
If I am on my own they cannot give me a boot so I was torn selfishly that if I make this perfect dinner more popular than what is it already, I will never get a boot 🙂
Also it is not a touristic place, it is homey and personal . It is our neighborhood hang out. I love this place.
Even in these economic time, they bring coffee as much as you desire. I usually leave home with a rapid heart beat
Love this diner. Hope it lasts and thrives for a long time

I recommend skipping this place, especially given the better food options available in the area. My experience was quite disappointing. I ordered the French toast with banana, but they didn’t have any bananas. I also ordered an avocado toast, but the bread wasn’t toasted at all, and the avocado was simply smashed onto the bread, covered with onions that weren’t mentioned in the menu. Overall, very disappointing.

Such a welcoming staff and beautiful/classic interior! The quantity of food was so unexpectedly large, it’s a huge bang for your buck! I would highly recommend the french toast; it’s MASSIVE, rich, sweet, and yummy!

No atmosphere. They take forever to take your order. Worst of all their prices are criminal. 11 dollars for a grilled cheese (thats not the deluxe). I walked out before they could take my order. Thank god they took so long for the waiter to come over bc it gave me the time to read the menu and realize its criminally over charging people. Their small cups of soup are 10 dollars. Get real.
